Much isn't known about 'Rangers of the New Republic', the upcoming 'Star Wars' live-action show. The developing series has been a part of the franchise's slate of shows that was unveiled during the Disney investor's meet last year and the rumor mills were churning about the characters the show would introduce. One of them in the discussion is Gina Carano, who was ousted from Lucasfilm following her political comments that sparked major outrage.

Carano, in her social media post, implied that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust. Soon after the actress, who essayed the role of Cara Dune in 'The Mandalorian' was fired. "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable," a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement.

Will Lucy Lawless replace Gina Carano in 'The Mandalorian'? Fans say 'she will kill' as Cara Dune

Now, with the actress ousted, the new challenges for Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will be finding a new actress to play the fan-favorite character. However, it isn't just for 'The Mandalorian,' but the 'Rangers of the New Republic' that is rumored to see Dune play a pivotal role.

Soon after it was announced the series was in development, 'Star Wars' geeks delved deeper into 'The Mandalorian' to see how it would serve as the backdoor pilot for the new show. The Collider reckoned the show might center around Sector Rangers, an intergalactic police force established by the Galactic Republic prior to the 'Clone Wars'.

How will Carano's firing impact 'Rangers of the New Republic'?

Season 2 of the 'Star Wars' epic focussed heavily on Dune becoming a 'Ranger of the New Republic', leading to speculations that Carano would be the star of a show in the new spin-off. Favreau and Filoni have made conscious efforts to suggest and give away as little as possible so far. In Season 2, Chapter 10: 'The Passenger', Dune is shown to have accepted the New Republic medal given to her by pilot Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee).

Subsequently, she was seen as a Marshal of the New Republic officially in Season 2, Chapter 14: 'The Tragedy', her new "rules" meant she was reluctant to help Din Djarin/Mando (Pedro Pascal) with the prison break attempt. ScreenRant speculated that Dune would have accepted the role to find more of the activities of the Empire remnants in the Outer Rim. Ideally, this would be the perfect starting point for the character and the show.

While it may seem to be a bit of a stretch, there is always a possibility for the series to be shelved until further notice. Carano was deemed to be the perfect fit to play Dune and with the latest development, acceptance will be hard. Then there is also that matter of re-shoots. If the series was filmed alongside 'The Mandalorian', then it would mean binning most of it and starting afresh. For now, fans are calling for 'Spartacus' and 'Xena: The Warrior Princess' star Lucy Lawless to replace Carano, but there is no official word on her replacement yet.
