'Queer show' 'House of the Dragon' becomes 2024's most-anticipated LGBTQ+ TV show

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 will stream on HBO on June 16, 2024. The first season of the 'Game of Thrones' prequel was immensely successful and anticipation for the second season is at an all-time high.

'House of the Dragon' much like 'Game of Thrones' is a pioneer in LQBTQ+ representation in the series. The show is also hugely popular among the community and the anticipation for the second season 'House of the Dragon' in the community is growing by the day as the release date approaches. 

According to research conducted by Emisil, a company that makes silicon prosthetics, 'House of the Dragon' is the most anticipated LGBTQ+ TV show of 2024, with 4.9 million searches. The other highly searched shows queer shows include 'Doctor Who', 'Ripley', and 'Heartstopper' among others.

In Season 1 of 'House of the Dragon', one of the central characters of the show Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan) embraces his homosexuality in a world that is fundamentally averse to that idea.

Laenor marries Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D' Arcy) but the marriage is an arrangement where he continues to be in a relationship with his partner Joffrey Lonmouth (Solly McLeod). Once Joffrey is killed, he finds love in Qarl Correy (Arty Froushan).

Unable to express his desires freely, he schemes with Daemon and Rhaenyra to fake his death and find a way out to Essos where he can live free.

What Happened in Season 1 of 'House of the Dragon'?

'House of the Dragon' Season 1 begins with King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) naming his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen as the heir to the Iron Throne in the absence of a male offspring.

Things change though when Viserys marries Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and Rhaenyra's best friend. Viserys and Alicent have male children and tensions escalate between Rhaenyra and Alicent after Alicent's son Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) sits on the throne after Viserys dies due to an illness.

Rhaenyra who believes that the throne is rightfully hers is now preparing herself with the help of her husband and uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) to take back the throne.
