Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme kicks female photographer in the head during show

Josh Homme's behavior during the show was very unusual. He cut himself till he bled, flipped the bird to the crowd and even called them 'retards'. The line was crossed when he kicked a female photo-journalist in the head. The rockstar was quick to apologize on twitter.

Queens of the Stone Age (QotSA) took the stage on Saturday at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show in Inglewood, California. But the tone they set for the pre-Christmas gig was definitely not a merry one.

The frontman of QotSA, Joshua Homme, kicked a female photographer in the head mid-way through the performance of their new song, The Evil Has Landed, according to a report by Variety. At the receiving end of Homme’s boot was Chelsea Lauren. The photographer for Shutterstock claims that the incident was unprovoked and that Homme even smiled at her before engaging in the act. Merry Christmas indeed!

Lauren, who needed medical attention after the incident, took to Instagram after the gig to post a video of the act. “It was obviously very intentional,” she said. Homme was quick to apologize via a string of Instagram videos and Twitter too. The frontman claimed that the incident occurred "while in a state of being lost in performance”.

Lauren, who was a fan of the band, said she was excited about covering the event and photographing Queens of the Stone Age for the first time, but expected the night to turn out the way it did.

“The next thing I know his foot connects with my camera and my camera connects with my face, really hard. He looked straight at me, swung his leg back pretty hard and full-blown kicked me in the face,” she said in an interview with Variety.

Lauren went on to photograph the following acts, Thirty Seconds To Mars and Muse in spite of the injury, but was hospitalized later that night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The response of social media hs been scathing, with hordes of people encouraging Lauren to press charges. She said she planned to file a police report on Sunday.

It's interesting to note that although QotSA's performances can get quite charged up usually, Josh Homme's behaviour was extra weird on Saturday night, even by their standards (after all, this is a band whose ex-bassist used to sometimes get nude on stage)!

The 44-year-old rocker, who along with his bandmates is nominated for a Grammy next year (Best Rock Album - Villains) flipped the bird to the audience and also called them 'retards', ecouraging them to boo at the band! Things got even more uncomfortable as Homme loudly announced "F*ck Muse", an uncalled jab at the band who was headlining the event.

A couple of minutes after the kicking incident, Homme even took a knife and deliberately sliced his forehead open, bleeding steadily for the rest of the night's performance (Professional Wrestling, this is called 'juicing' or 'blading')! So not only did he harm Lauren, but himself too!

Lauren, who was shocked and visibly shaked up after the event, said: “I feel like if I don’t do anything, he gets to kick people in the face and not get in trouble because he’s a musician.”  She then released an Instagram update the next day thanking supporters and well-wishers while codemning the act of assault.

"Assault in any form is not okay, no matter what the reasoning. Alcohol and drugs are no excuse. I was where I was allowed to be, I was not breaking any rules. I was simply trying to do my job. I hold nobody accountable for this but Josh himself," she said in the Instagram post.

Thank you everyone that has reached out with supportive messages. A small update, as I'm being flooded with questions: My neck is a sore, my eyebrow bruised and I'm a bit nauseous. The doctor released me early in the morning. Here are three images. Two of them as Josh looked at me, smiled and then kicked me. The other one is later after he cut his own face with a knife. I was in the pit in tears - and he just stared at me smiling. Assault in any form is not okay, no matter what the reasoning. Alcohol and drugs are no excuse. I was where I was allowed to be, I was not breaking any rules. I was simply trying to do my job. I hold nobody accountable for this but Josh himself. KROQ has nothing to do with this and I will always support them. The irony is someone had thrown an ice cube on to the very slick catwalk before the QOTSA set. I was afraid that one of the band members might slip and hurt themselves so, when the lights went dark, I used my arm to wipe down the runway so nobody would hurt themselves. Thank you to @variety for their immediate concern and care with this matter. As of now, nobody from QOTSA has reached out to me. #queensofthestoneage #QOTSA #JoshHomme

The irony to the scenario is that jsut before the gig, Lauren saw someone throw an ice cube on stage. Afraid that one of the performers might slip and fall, she used her own hand to wipe the melting ice away! So much for spreading the Holiday Cheer and being rewarded for an act of kindness!
