'Power Book II: Ghost' Episode 2 Review: Will Blanca Rodriguez be Tasha's ticket out of jail?

There's a lot that went down in this episode but it was the funeral scene that was the most unexpected one as Tariq delivered a rather emotional speech

Sex, a gruesome murder and a funeral — the second episode of 'Power Book II: Ghost' is not going easy with the suspense and is proving to be a nailbiting watch, perhaps just as the original series.

The episode titled 'Exceeding Expectations' slowly built up to the climax of the funeral: James St Patrick aka Ghost, the hero of the original series and the looming presence in the spinoff. The question was: What would Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) say at the funeral?  He was receiving advice from his lawyers and from others and seemed rather in a flux. Should he trash his father, the man who he had shot? Or should he praise him to the heavens?

The funeral scene was the most unexpected one in the episode, as surprisingly, Tariq delivered a rather emotional speech. He didn't praise and neither did he insult his father. He just gave a rather mellow account of what he knew about him — extremely mellow for a son who has shot his father and is covering up for his mother, Tasha. For a few seconds, it was almost hard to believe. Was he faking it? Or was that emotion genuine? Nevertheless, with the soundtrack of 'I May Never Come Home', this scene hit harder than one would have expected. We never got to see the body, we just saw the coffin. And it finally hit home that Ghost will never come home. He's actually gone and will never come home.

Tasha (Naturi Naughton) continues to struggle with her story of killing Ghost and dragging Tommy Egan into the snake pit with her. Blanca Rodriguez made a rather unexpected return in this episode and she might just be Tasha's ticket out of jail, provided Tasha uses her head and doesn't flap around like a headless chicken. All said and done, you got to hand it to Tasha for turning up at a funeral looking like a million bucks, and in handcuffs too.

That's the beauty of 'Power Book II'. You might be in jail and face the possibility of being in prison forever, but you still need to look good at a funeral of a man that your son shot. Meanwhile, in all of this, Justin and Carrie (Melanie Liburd) decide to get it on in the office, in what seems like a rather uncomfortable sex scene. Like we said at the start, there's a lot that happened in the episode, but it was the funeral that made you forget the rest.
