What is TikTok 'door kick challenge'? Police issues warning about viral trend

Police have approached the parents to speak to and inform their children about the dangerous dare that has affected several unsuspecting homeowners

The “door kick challenge” trend on TikTok is triggering concern for Canadian police as the viral trend has affected several homes. The challenge involves TikTok users kicking down the doors of innocent people while they record the deed for TikTok videos. 

TikTok faced high criticism from many such dangerous trends where users try dangerous viral dares for upvotes, The ‘door kick challenge’ has pushed kids to kick down front doors with singer Kesha's song ‘Die Young’ playing in the background. The lyrics of the trendy song go, “I hear your heartbeat to the beat of the drums…”

Police registered seven reports of doors being kicked in, within an hour, mostly in the Hearthwood neighborhood in Vancouver. "In most cases, teenaged males kicked in the door of unsuspecting homeowners, then fled the scene," said the police.

The Vancouver Police Department is alerting the community to this recent challenge and encourages parents to warn their children of the obvious dangers associated with this type of crime. According to the statement published on the police department’s Facebook page, “While in theory, this challenge seems harmless, its segue into our community has caused some real safety concerns.”

According to media reports, in one surveillance video, young teenage boys were captured driving around in an older dark-colored 4-door sedan with chrome spoke wheels at one of the locations. Talking about the TikTok challenge and the spate of related incidents that happened in Vancouver, a spokesperson told a local news channel KPTV, “While we have not seen this trending on our platform, we expect our community to create responsibly and will remove content that encourages vandalism and other criminal activities.” The department of the Special Investigations Unit is asking anyone with information about the incidents to contact them, promising to keep their identity a secret. Anonymous tips that can lead the police to identify the teenage miscreants are welcome.
