Pikachu is now the official ambassador of Japan and fans couldn't be happier
Our beloved Pokemon, Pikachu has been officially appointed by Japanese Foreign Minister, Taro Kono, as Ambassador to promote Osaka as the ideal city to host the 2025 World Expo.
Occurring once in every five years, the World Expo is all about raising awareness and seeking solutions to current global issues, according to Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), an organization that monitors and regulates World Expos.
Pikachu, world's most favorite Pokemon character, who has been oh! full of surprises recently, having mastered actual sentences and, specifically, the English language in Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! seems to be the ideal choice to represent Japan. What's better? He's going to be working alongside Hello Kitty while serving this important political role.
At the ceremony, Kono also appointed Hello Kitty for the role.
This is, however, not the first honor awarded to Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty was declared a “UNICEF Special Friend of Children” in 2004 after she raised $150,000 for female education programs initiated by UNICEF.
Pikachu and Hello Kitty's political aspirations were made very clear when Taro Kono announced their ambassadorial role for the Japanese Government via Twitter.

This is all in part of Japan's bid to host the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. Japan's facing tough competition from France, Russia, and Azerbaijan. Which explains why the Japanese are leaning towards cultural icons to promote their cause.
However, this is not the first time a fictional character has played a political role. DC Comics' Wonder Woman was appointed the UN's Ambassador of Gender Equality, with Gal Gadot and Linda Carter attending the appointment ceremony. Winnie the Pooh also had the honor of being the Ambassador of Friendship.
If Japan succeeds with regards to the World Expo, it surely will be an interesting event to see.
On the other hand, people are totally stoked for Pikachu's new responsibility and are celebrating his new role!
