Piers Morgan calls Trump a ‘spineless coward’, challenges him to stand up to NRA and ban guns

Morgan’s reaction came after President Trump did not speak of embracing stricter gun enforcement laws and instead chose to focus on video games and mental illness

Piers Morgan has delivered a gun control challenge to US President Donald Trump after 32 innocent people lost their lives in the two mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas over the weekend.

Morgan took to his DailyMail column, titled "Making America Weep Again - Do you have the guts to stand up to the NRA bullies and ban the weapons of mass murder, Mr. President, or are you a spineless coward?", to call out President Donald Trump and the lack of gun laws.

Piers' reaction comes after Trump, in a ten minute White House speech in the aftermath of the shootings, praised the law enforcement, and condemned "racism, bigotry and white supremacy" but did not speak of embracing stricter gun enforcement laws and instead chose to focus on video games and mental illness.

Morgan called out the fact that the President seemed to avoid holding guns and gun laws responsible in the attacks.

"If mentally sick or hateful people don’t have guns, they can’t shoot people," Morgan added.

"That’s why mentally sick and hateful people don’t shoot anyone in Japan, which has a greater obsession with violent video games than anywhere but no mass shootings – they can’t get their hands on guns," he continued.

Morgan also made a reference to how 16 school children were shot dead in Britain in the Dunblane massacre in 1996 which resulted in guns being banned from all civilian hands in the UK.

He also spoke about how the US gun problem was unique amongst developing nations.

"So let’s cut all the c**p: it’s about the guns," Morgan said and added that there were many other countries which had the same kind of "mental illness, hate, bigotry, white supremacy, violent video games, and internet radicalization" that Trump was referring to but it is only the United States which has such easy access to guns.

Morgan went on to say that it was time that Trump "grew a pair" and stood up to the NRA and "do what REALLY needs to be done."

The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is a gun rights advocacy group based in the United States.

He also called for "a ban on assault weapons, a ban on high-capacity magazines, and the introduction of mandatory background checks on all gun purchases. Do it now, or stand condemned as a coward."
