'Peaky Blinders' season 5 episode 3 preview: Aberama Gold might try to betray Thomas Shelby but Polly Gray could stop him

In its third episode, 'Peaky Blinders' might just get more intense. Tommy fears a Black Cat lurks in his own clan. Who could it be? Is it a key character none of us are paying attention to?

The second episode of 'Peaky Blinders' ended on a brutal note with Aberama Gold critically wounded and his son Bonnie Gold crucified on a cross. Cillian Murphy brings his A-game to the show as Thomas Shelby. However, something about him seems to have changed. Distressed and anxious, Tommy fears a Black Cat lurks in his own clan. Who could it be? Is it a key character none of us are paying attention to?

The Peaky Blinders are also facing a threat from another gang in the town who sent a message to the Shelby leader: "Tell Tommy Shelby it's time to f***ing share." It's the Billy Boys and they seem to have a trump card. As Michael Gray (Finn Cole) returns home with wife Gina Gray (Anya Taylor-Joy), he is a harbinger of bad news. He tells Tommy what they say about him: "Tommy Shelby is a spent force. Politics has got to him. Now is a good time to move in."

Everything seems to be going in the opposite direction for Tommy, but could the third episode mark a significant change? Titled 'Strategy',  the official synopsis of the episode reads: "Tommy gathers the Peaky Blinders to discuss recent tragic events and to give his orders. The Shelby boys travel to London to meet Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin), and it’s soon revealed who has the upper hand."

“At Arrow House, Linda (Kate Phillips) visits Lizzie (Natasha O'Keeffe) to ask her advice, and Polly (Helen McCrory) visits Aberama (Aidan Gillen) to pass on Tommy’s instructions. Meanwhile, Tommy learns that one of the Peaky Blinders is in danger and sends Arthur (Paul Anderson) and Johnny Dogs (Packy Lee) on an urgent mission to intervene,” the note further continues. How will the Peaky Blinders hatch a plot to wreak vengeance on the Billy Boys? Led by Jimmy McCavern (Brian Gleeson), the new gang in the town seems to have a master plan already in their mind and it could take Tommy a while to gather his senses. Meanwhile, Aberama is seething with anger after his son was killed. Could he betray the Shelby clan? There's also scope that Polly might be a significant force in his reconciliation with the gang. Given the two are meeting after a brief pause, there could also be romance in the air.

Mosley, who expressed his desire for a potential alliance with Tommy, might get what he wants. Will Tommy see through the bigger political conspiracy behind his back or will Mosley take advantage of his weak moment? Meanwhile, both Linda and Lizzie have been surrounded are discontented with their husbands. The pair both wrote them letters in the previous episode, both of which were burnt in ashes. Linda, however, had another letter in store for Arthur. While divorce doesn't seem to hold much importance in those days, could it be Linda's desire for more allowance or a gift that costs a fortune in times of the financial crisis?

Just like the previous two episodes, the tense air in 'Peaky Blinders' doesn't seem to settle down any time soon. Get set to watch another riveting hour-long episode that rolls out on Sunday, September 1 at 9 pm on BBC One.
