'Peacemaker' Episode 8: Who plays Superman and Wonder Woman in the Justice League cameo?
The Justice League cameo in the finale of 'Peacemaker' rubbed fans the wrong way. Not only it did garner heavy criticism for making the league a joke, but the appeared use of body doubles for Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, who play Superman and Wonder Woman in the DCEU, has not sat well with the audience. The final minutes of the episode see four members of the league appear to take care of the butterfly situation, only for John Cena's 'Peacemaker' and his team to have finished the job.
While Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller reprised their roles as Arthur Curry/Aquaman and Barry Allen/Flash respectively, 'The Man of Steel' and 'Wonder Woman' were only shown as silhouettes and nothing more. Neither Cavill nor Gadot were named in the credits, and interestingly, nor were Momoa and Miller. At the time of writing, neither Momoa nor Miller were listed in IMDb's official cast list. This does give rise to a few theories.
For starters, has Cavill left DC? It appears to be so. Although the Englishman was keen to don the blue and red again, this cameo all but confirms that the folks at WB might just be looking past the character. Gadot's availability might be dependent on her schedule and that explains the reason behind her body double. The responses on social media were all about slamming DCEU for disrespecting the iconic characters in the universe. "So the Justice League showed up in #Peacemaker with no Batman or Cyborg. Also the faces of Superman or Wonder Woman weren't shown. Henry Cavill's done for it seems. As for Gal, I guess she was too busy or didn't care," one of the comments read.
"This is the real Justice league. Not the Parody league on #Peacemaker worst cameo in a series. the series does not need a cameo of two shadows of superman and wonder woman and two joss whedom-style dialogues leaving Aquaman and the flash as buffoons. #RestoreTheSnyderVerse," seconded another. "Lol at the Peacemaker season 1 finale not being able to get Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill to make cameos as Wonder Woman and Superman after getting Ezra as Flash and Jason as Aquaman," a fan opined.
"Even if Batman and Cyborg are being replaced/erased from the timeline after The Flash; it's weird they weren't in the Peacemaker finale with the rest of the League. If you're going to make 2 silhouette cameos for Superman and Wonder Woman, might as well make 2 more," a fan remarked.
