'Orange is the New Black' season 7: New trailer, release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about Netflix show's final season

In the upcoming season, audiences will get to see Piper (played by Taylor Schilling) struggle with life outside the prison after getting an early release
UPDATED JUL 24, 2019

'Orange is the New Black' is coming back to Netflix for a seventh season.

The seventh and the final season of the series follows Piper Chapman (played by Taylor Schilling) as she is released from prison after being imprisoned for drug trafficking.

In the final season of the series, audiences will get to see Piper struggle with life outside the prison. At the same time, the series will also see the friendship between Taystee and Cindy evolves as she faces a life sentence. These are only two of the many stories that the final season will showcase.

Release date

The series is set to release on Netflix on July 26.

Plot

The last season of 'Orange is the New Black' ended on a devastating note. Blanca (played by Laura Gomez) is shipped off to an immigration detention center. Danielle Brooks' Taystee goes down for the murder of CO Piscatella, which she did not commit. This means that any scope of getting out of the prison and into the free world is now lost for her unless a witness retracts their testimony. Else, she will be serving life sentence in Litchfield.

In addition to this, Schilling's Piper was granted an early release — highlighting the racial imbalance in the USA.

In a recent interview, actress Beth Dover who plays the role of Linda on the show, teased the fans with some snippets from the current season. She shared, "We're going to see Piper struggling with life on the outside... Alex (Laura Prepon) and Piper trying to keep their relationship intact, all that kind of stuff. We're going to see the people still in prison, and we're going to be tackling some immigration issues as well."
