'Orange is the New Black' season 7: New trailer, release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about Netflix show's final season
In the upcoming season, audiences will get to see Piper (played by Taylor Schilling) struggle with life outside the prison after getting an early release
'Orange is the New Black' is coming back to Netflix for a seventh season.
The seventh and the final season of the series follows Piper Chapman (played by Taylor Schilling) as she is released from prison after being imprisoned for drug trafficking.
In the final season of the series, audiences will get to see Piper struggle with life outside the prison. At the same time, the series will also see the friendship between Taystee and Cindy evolves as she faces a life sentence. These are only two of the many stories that the final season will showcase.
The series is set to release on Netflix on July 26.
The last season of 'Orange is the New Black' ended on a devastating note. Blanca (played by Laura Gomez) is shipped off to an immigration detention center. Danielle Brooks' Taystee goes down for the murder of CO Piscatella, which she did not commit. This means that any scope of getting out of the prison and into the free world is now lost for her unless a witness retracts their testimony. Else, she will be serving life sentence in Litchfield.
In addition to this, Schilling's Piper was granted an early release — highlighting the racial imbalance in the USA.
In a recent interview, actress Beth Dover who plays the role of Linda on the show, teased the fans with some snippets from the current season. She shared, "We're going to see Piper struggling with life on the outside... Alex (Laura Prepon) and Piper trying to keep their relationship intact, all that kind of stuff. We're going to see the people still in prison, and we're going to be tackling some immigration issues as well."
Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman
Schilling plays the role of Piper Chapman, a character based on Piper Kerman, author of 'Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison'.
For her role in the series, Schilling had received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress - Television Series Musical or Comedy and Best Actress - Television Series Drama.
Laura Prepon as Alex Vause
Prepon is perhaps best known for her role of Donna Pinciotti in 'That '70s Show'. For her role of Vause, Prepon won The Screen Actors Guild Awards consecutively in 2016 and 2017.
Created by Jenji Kohan
Jenji Kohan has received nine Emmy Award nominations. The writer and producer has also created the Showtime comedy-drama series 'Weeds'.
'Orange is the New Black' is the first series to win Emmy nominations in both comedy and drama categories. It has also received six Golden Globe Award nominations, six Writers Guild of America Award nominations, a Producers Guild of America Award, an American Film Institute Award and a Peabody Award.
The official trailer of Netflix show 'Orange is the New Black' season 7 released on June 26 and it is all about what it takes to move forward. Piper Chapman has been released from federal prison, we see Tasty back among people who she once referred to as friends and Red is no more the Red we met at the beginning of this show. There is a lot that has changed since we met the inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security women's prison. After the riot in the prison in season 5, followed by the inmates being sent to a maximum-security prison, there has been fallout and a lot has changed. The season will center on this change.
Where to watch
The final season will be available for streaming on Netflix starting July 26.
Kate Mulgrew, who plays Red on the show, has posted a beautiful goodbye post on Instagram. She wrote, "Today is my last day filming OITNB. As Red bids goodbye to seven extraordinary years, Janeway lifts a glass and both blow kisses. Happy Valentine’s Day to all the captains and cooks who make life sizzzle.”
