Oprah among A-list celebs to match Amal and George Clooney's half a million donation to March For Our Lives
Following the generous donation made by Amal and George Cloony , more celebrities come forward to match the grant to March For Our Lives
Taking cue from power couple, George and Amal Clooney, other American public personalities, including Oprah Winfrey, have donated half a million dollars to the March For Our Lives, an event triggered by the Florida high school shooting and scheduled to take place in Parkland on MArch 24.
March For Our Lives was formed by the survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 were killed on February 14 on the school premises.
The first Hollywood celebrity to come up with monetary support to the survivors were teh Clooneys, who on Tuesday vowed to donate $500,000 and attend the March in Florida.
“Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School,” George wrote in a statement to Variety on Tuesday.
“Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating $500,000 to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children’s lives depend on it."
This prompted other A-list celebrities to “match” the donation.
Oprah Winfrey soon wrote on Twitter; "George and Amal, I couldn't agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to 'March For Our Lives.' These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we've had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard."

Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw, Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg also said they would donate half a million dollars to the cause.
The Florida High School students have raised a #Neveragain gun control movement to ensure their school is the last one to witness a mass shooting.
