‘One Day’ Episode 2 takes viewers to 1989. Emma and Dexter are in very different directions, with one in a villa in Rome and the other on a minibus in the Midlands. However, they write letters to each other to be in touch.

The episode beautifully illustrates the tug-of-war between privilege and purpose. Emma is now part of a theater group and Dexter is supposedly meant to be starting a teaching job.

Emma and Dexter start missing each other with each passing day. With letters, they begin to open up to each other. They continue to share the joys and sorrows that only life can bring.

Emma writes Dexter a letter, confessing that acting isn't for her. She is wondering what to do with her life while Dexter is eating gelato in Italy.
