‘One Day’ Episode 2 takes viewers to 1989. Emma and Dexter are in very different directions, with one in a villa in Rome and the other on a minibus in the Midlands. However, they write letters to each other to be in touch.

The episode beautifully illustrates the tug-of-war between privilege and purpose. Emma is now part of a theater group and Dexter is supposedly meant to be starting a teaching job.

Emma writes Dexter a letter, confessing that acting isn't for her. She is wondering what to do with her life while Dexter is eating gelato in Italy.
