'Once & Future' #7 Preview: Galahad sits on the Seige Perilous while Duncan slays his first pixie

King Arthur adds young Galahad to his undead army if he can survive the Seige Perilous, and Duncan joins the family business, ax in hand

Britain may not be the shining example of what it once was, but the return of King Arthur spells more doom than it does salvation. Returning from a hiatus after its first arc, 'Once & Future' sees Duncan join the family slayer business in #7, while King Arthur's plans proceed with gruesome and sinister intent.

The official synopsis for the issue reads, "Although Bridgette and Duncan were able to escape the Otherworld, their adventure is only just beginning! As the chaos of Arthur's return reaches London, an artifact at the British Museum is stolen. But is it Arthur who's interested in the relic... or someone, or something, new?"

BOOM! Studios released a preview, which sees this age's Galahad try to prove himself to King Arthur by sitting on the Seige Perilous — a throne on which no one but the greatest knight may sit and live. The throne does not work quite as Galahad expects.

It immediately begins to transform and decay his flesh, making him as gruesome as King Arthur and the rest of his undead army. Galahad may be transformed into Arthur's greatest knight, but that's only assuming he survives the Seige Perilous in the first place.

Meanwhile, Galahad is not the only one trying to live up to his legacy. Duncan is taking up his grandmother Bridgette's slayer-like profession, entering the family trade by dealing with all the threats that mythical creatures pose to humanity.

Bridgette appears to be starting him small, as we see him in the aftermath of his first battle with a pixie. Though he's working with Bridgette, the events of the first arc show that the two of them are far from close — he's going to have a hard time trusting her, even with King Arthur's threat looming large.

The post-credit scene of the first arc begs a few important questions — where is Merlin, what are his plans, and what has become of Merlin's new Nimue, Duncan's mother?

'Once & Future' is written by Kieron Gillen, with art by Dan Mora, colors by Tamra Bonvillain, and lettering by Ed Dukeshire.

'Once & Future' #7 releases on March 25, wherever comics are sold.
