Joe Biden was declared the president-elect after being rewarded 20 electoral votes for winning Pennsylvania. Many took to social media to express their celebratory wishes, as CNN and AP called the election in favor of Biden. CNN political commentator and Barack Obama's former advisor Van Jones broke down in tears on air as he expressed his thoughts on Biden winning the election.

He said through tears, "It's easier to be a parent this morning, it's easier to be a dad. It's easier to tell your kids, 'Character matters, tell them the truth matters, being a good person matters.' And it's easier for a whole lot of people. If you're Muslim in this country, you don't have to worry that the president doesn't want you here. If you're an immigrant, you don't have to worry if the president is happy your baby has been snatched away or send DREAMers back for no reason. It’s vindication for a lot of people who have really suffered." His words come after months of accusations against President Trump for actions such as the Muslim ban and Immigration and Customs Enforcement official raids that were happening throughout the country.

Jones continued to say, "The character of the country matters. Being a good man matters. I just want my sons to look at this. It's easy to do it the cheap way, and get away with stuff. But it comes back around. It comes back around. And this is a good day for this country." The former advisor to President Obama also spoke on the 'Black Lives Matter' movement that only grew through many injustices such as the death of  Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.

Jones said, "‘I can’t breathe,’ that wasn’t just George Floyd. A lot of people have felt they couldn’t breathe. Every day you're waking up and getting tweets, and you're going to the store and people who have been afraid to show their racism are getting nastier and nastier to you. And you're worried about your kids, and you're worried about your sister, can she just go to Walmart and get back into her car without somebody saying something to her. And you've spent so much of your life energy just trying to hold it together. I'm sorry for the people who lost." While Jones has been critical of Trump's actions, he has also, according to reports, said that the POTUS should be given a bit more credit when it comes to what he's done for "prison reform and providing funding for historically black colleges."

In 2016, Jones also went viral for his reaction where he spoke about how he explained the results of the election to his children. "You tell your kids don't be a bully, you tell your kids don't be a bigot... and then you have this outcome," he said. "You have people putting children to bed tonight and they are afraid of breakfast. They're afraid of 'How do I explain this to my children?'" The official CNN Twitter account posted the video (below) of his back in November 2016.
