In an interview with CBS News that aired on Sunday, November 15, Barack Obama said that he won’t work in President-elect Joe Biden's cabinet because if he did so wife Michelle Obama “would leave” him. But the former president said he will help the president-elect in "any ways" he can. Obama made these remarks during an interview on ‘CBS This Morning’, when anchor Gayle King asked him if he would like to work officially for Biden after he assumes office in January,  the 59-year-old replied, “There are probably some things I would not be doing, 'cause Michelle would leave me. She'd be like, 'What? You're doin' what?'"

The Internet has also been rife with speculations over possible cabinet appointees of the upcoming Biden administration, and given the close relationship between Biden and Obama, many have floated the possibility of the former president being appointed the next secretary of state. However, the former president shot the idea down. "I'm not planning to suddenly work on the White House staff or something," Obama added in the interview.

The 44th president also mentioned that there were no "factual scenarios" to stop Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris from taking office next year. Obama, however, slammed President Donald Trump’s allegations of election fraud and denial to concede “disappointing”. He stated: “It's been sort of par for the course during these four years. They obviously didn't think there was any fraud going on, 'cause they didn't say anything for the first two days.”

Obama added, “But there's damage to this, because what happens is that the peaceful transfer of power, the notion that any of us who attain an elected office – whether it's dogcatcher or president – are servants of the people. It's a temporary job.” The CBS News interview of Obama came days before the first part of his book, called ‘A Promised Land’, will come out on November 17.

Another report stated that Obama’s memoir has revealed how he used to smoke multiple cigarettes a day when he was serving as the president of America. However, he later quit it after his daughter Malia saw him. The book has also reportedly shared his struggles while being the president - the first term specifically and the effect it had on his relationship with Michelle. A CNN report stated that Obama confessed that it was the job that made it especially difficult for him to quit smoking even though he was at sometimes eight, nine, or ten cigarettes a day. Also, being POTUS, he had to mostly search a "discreet location to grab an evening smoke."

During a 2009 press conference, Obama had reportedly said, “As a former smoker, I constantly struggle with it. Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker, a constant smoker? No. I don't do it in front of my kids. I don't do it in front of my family - and you know, I would say that I am 95% cured, but there are times where I mess up."

The memoir has reportedly discussed Michelle’s struggles while being the first lady. "Despite Michelle's success and popularity, I continued to sense an undercurrent of tension in her, subtle but constant, like the faint thrum of a hidden machine. It was as if, confined as we were within the walls of the White House, all her previous sources of frustration became more concentrated, more vivid, whether it was my round the clock absorption with work, or the way politics exposed our family to scrutiny and attacks, or the tendency of even friends and family members to treat her role as secondary in importance,” it added.
