BRONX, NEW YORK CITY: A 63-year-old man allegedly rammed his van into his ex-wife's car and then attacked her with a machete outside her home while her two grandchildren watched on Thursday, October 3.

Noelia Mateo, 58, had recently moved to the Ellsworth Avenue on the southeastern corner of the Bronx. Around 7 am in the morning, her ex-husband attacked her by ramming his van into her car just as she was getting in. The woman was sent flying after being struck, witnesses and police said.

Vincent DiChristina, Noelia's neighbor, said that when he opened his front door, he saw him drag the woman under the car. The ex-husband then got into the car and started reversing it. The neighbor saw him drive right over her legs. As the woman tried to crawl towards the pavement, he got out of the car and started slashing her with a machete.

"I was screaming at him to distract him from beating on her. And then after he took off with the car, I called 911 and I screamed at the operator, asking them, ‘Where the hell is that ambulance? Where’s the police?’" the neighbor said, according to the New York Times.

Dave Colon, another neighbor, revealed he came out to see what happened and saw Noelia on the pavement. Colon added that her grandson and granddaughter were across the street watching what had happened to her.

Kathy Bellwood who witnessed the horrific incident said Noelia was bleeding profusely and was in pain because "she was crying or praying in Spanish." A neighbor covered her with a blanket till the cops arrived at the scene.

The NYPD said the grandmother-of-two was rushed to the hospital immediately and was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center. The police are still looking for her ex-husband, according to NY Daily News.

The residents revealed that Noelia had been in the neighborhood for around a year. They added that they had seen her during the mornings taking her grandkids to school. The neighbors also shared that her ex-husband didn't live with them. Colon speculated that this might have been a premeditated attack because the ex-husband knew exactly what he was doing.

Police are currently searching for 63-year-old Victor Mateo in connection to Noelia’s murder. He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall with salt and pepper hair.

Anyone with information can call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish.
