New Jersey doctor falls 82 feet to death from cliff while trying to take pictures with fiancée during vacation in Ibiza

Daniel Sirovich, 34, slipped while on a hiking trail near a cliff in Ibiza with his partner Kristi Kelly, 28, on August 14
UPDATED AUG 19, 2019

A New Jersey doctor fell 82 feet to his death after he lost his footing while trying to take pictures of the beach during a sightseeing trip in Spain with his fiancée.

Dr. Daniel Sirovich, 34, slipped while on a hiking trail near a cliff in Ibiza with his partner Kristi Kelly, 28, on Wednesday, August 14.

Before he was airlifted to hospital, an off-duty nurse present at the scene attempted to revive him at the scene but it was of no use.

Although the couple had no plans to go sightseeing in Pedrera de Cala d’Hort, they took a last-minute decision after a music festival in England got washed out, Kristi’s mother, Mary Ann Kelly, told the Staten Island Advance.

"When life throws you rain and wind you find a sunny place and to dance together with some amazing people," Sirovich had posted on Facebook, days before his death.

Sirovich was due to start his dream job in Boston in less than two weeks time - a position that he had prepared himself academically for years. He had been dating Kristi for the last seven years.

Before going on a vacation, the couple had been staying at Staten Island and New Jersey, where Sirovich’s parents lived.

"It's a horrible end to a beautiful romance. They studied together, they lived together, they traveled the world together and their whole goal was to heal people," Mary Ann said.

"They traveled the world, the two of them. All they were concerned about was getting their education and saving lives."

On Friday, August 16, a GoFundMe page was set up to collect enough funds to fly Sirovich's body back to his home and arrange for a proper funeral.

"Danny was, by far, the person with the most life that we had the pleasure to meet. He gave 120% in everything he did, from his studies, to work, to loving Kristi, his family, and friends. To living life to the fullest and truly enjoying each and every moment, seeing the whole world and appreciating every detail in music," the description on the page read.

The fundraiser's goal of $30,000 goal was reached and surpassed in just 24 hours. As of the time of writing this article, the campaign had collected over $44,000.

"We are speechless with the amount of support Danny & his family has received during these hard times," Tanya Calhau, one of the organizers of the fundraiser, said.

"I thank each and every one of you who have reached out, shared the GoFundMe page or donated to help us bring Dannyboy back home for a proper funeral that he deserves."

Details about the wake and funeral have not yet been released.
