'New Amsterdam' Season 3 Episode 2: Whose voice brought Dr Vijay Kapoor back to life after Covid-19 threat?
Season 3 of ‘New Amsterdam’ has shown Dr Vijay Kapoor (Anupam Kher) in a life and death battle against Covid. Vijay Kapoor's heart as we saw in episode one of Season 3 has suffered terrible damage due to Covid. In fact, the doctor overseeing Vijay's care, tells Max, that Vijay's heart is so damaged, that even if they found him the best cardiac surgeon in the world he still may not be able to survive.
That's when Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) calls in the big guns, Dr Floyd Reynolds. Dr Reynolds played by Jocko Sims who exited 'New Amsterdam' at the end of Season 2 is back at 'New Amsterdam', but for the moment temporarily.
Dr Reynolds makes it clear that this is going to be a challenging case and initially doesn't want to operate at all. However, Dr Max and Dr Helen (Freema Agyeman) make it clear that not operating is not an option. That Vijay will die without surgery. The critical nature of Dr Kapoor's ailment comes to the fore while on the operating table and the line between life and death blurs as his colleagues watch on anxiously.
However, it is a vision or dream with his late wife that brings him back to his colleagues at 'New Amsterdam' and most importantly to his granddaughter that Ella (Dierdre Friel) his son Rohan's former partner and Dr Vijay’s friend has given birth to.

In fact, in the dream when Dr Kapoor’s wife gives him a laddoo, he says he doesn’t need it. All he needs is her. She then says you will need the strength for our granddaughter. It is this revelation that brings Dr Kapoor back from the brink. He eats the laddoo and the next thing we know is that Dr Kapoor is slowly opening his eyes much to the relief of the colleagues around him.
Now that Dr Kapoor is at least back to some semblance of recovery what does this mean for Dr Reynolds? It will be interesting to see if Dr Reynolds returns to 'New Amsterdam' permanently. We’ve seen that Jocko Sims' character feels guilty that he hasn’t been with his old colleagues during the pandemic. Will Dr Floyd return? We certainly hope so. Dr Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) could certainly do with his company.
In the meantime, it looks like it’s time for some company for Dr Max’s daughter Luna with another child, Dr Vijay Kapoor's grandaughter joining the 'New Amsterdam' family.
