After the first episode of Season 3 of 'New Amsterdam', it looked like there was indeed hope for 'Sharpwin'. For the uninitiated, that’s the cute couple name fans have come up with for Dr Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman)and Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold). After all, the two shared quite a moment, away on the roof of the hospital, where Max tells her that he wants to build a better future for his daughter and her at the end of Episode 1. Fans were worried that Sharpwin was done for good, especially when the new trauma surgeon Dr Cassian Shin played by Daniel Dae Kim was visibly flirting with Helen over an operating table no less. But when he tries to move in closer and touch her, Helen simply says she can’t do this.

But what remains to be seen as the season progresses is whether Helen pulls away from Kim because of lingering feelings for Max or simply that the pandemic has made her lose touch with what it’s like to actually date someone.

Helen does tell Max at the end of Episode 1 of Season 3 that she feels that nothing is safe anymore. Friends, restaurants or even intimacy. She echoes the thoughts of many when she says that she used to be scared of the virus and now she's scared of the new normal. So is that the real reason she pushes Dr Shin away?

We do see that Helen and Max's bond continues, but is it more as colleagues who have battled an unjust system and have found themselves warily on the other side? Is it time for a fresh start for Dr Sharpe? Can her heart make room for romance in a post-pandemic world and moreover with her long history with Max will she be able to? Well if anyone has the confidence to take on Max and also be at par with the brilliant Dr Sharpe, it would be Dr Cassian Shin. The question is after being rebuffed by Dr Sharpe will he want to? Watch this space for what could continue to be a very a interesting love triangle.

'New Amsterdam' premieres on Tuesday, March 2, at 10 pm ET/PT on NBC.
