'Teenage Bounty Hunters': Meet Maddie Phillips, Anjelica Bette Fellini and rest of the cast of YA action-comedy
Interesting tidbit: 'Teenage Bounty Hunters' was originally titled 'Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters' before someone thought it might be wise not to have such 'in-your-face' branding. However, teenage girls trying to figure out their sexuality while they 'kick-ass' is still part of the upcoming show's DNA. According to showrunner, Kathleen Jordan (who also wrote and co-executive produced the show), she wanted Sterling and Blair Wesley to be able to "live in a world where sexuality for teenage girls could be honest, fun, and full of pleasure; Sterling and Blair certainly run into challenges when it comes to their sexuality, but they also get to be in control and at the center of the narrative." All 10 episodes of the series will drop on August 14 on Netflix.
According to the official synopsis, 16-year-old fraternal twin sisters, Sterling and Blair, are "rebelling against their buttoned-up Southern community". The show also promises "an over-the-top adventure as they dive into the world of bail skipping baddies and suburban secrets while trying to navigate high school drama -- love, sex, and study hall". 'Teenage Bounty Hunters' was created by Kathleen Jordan with Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann, who also served as executive producers with Robert Sudduth, and Blake McCormick. But what of the cast of this show that Jordan described as 'Buffy meets Veronica Mars'? Here are the key characters of the show:
Maddie Phillips as Sterling Wesley
The more free-spirited and outgoing of the two twin sisters, blonde Sterling is opinionated, non-conforming rebel. She pursues Luke Creswell in her class and has sex with him, losing her virginity before Blair, much to Blair's annoyance, who says, "I guess you're the sluttier twin now." Maddie Phillips, who plays Blair, split her childhood between Vancouver, Canada, where she was born, and Perth, Australia, where she moved when she was ten. Acting has always been her greatest love. Fans know her from her roles in 'Supernatural', 'Van Helsing', 'Ghost Wars', and she was also featured in the films 'Summerland' and 'Santa’s Boots'. This is her first lead TV role.
Anjelica Bette Fellini as Blair Wesley
Brunette Blair is the geek of the fighting duo. While she is equally quick with her punches, she is a lot more socially awkward than her outgoing twin. She dresses more conservatively, favoring collared T-shirts. She is also an overachiever with a quick wit and strong imagination, who takes her studies as seriously as bounty hunting. She also has her eye on cute boy Miles but she tends to scramble for words anytime she is in front of him. Blair is portrayed by Anjelica Bette Fellini, who is a trained ballet dancer and grew up in New York City. She debuted as an actress in the second season of 'X-Men' comics-based 'The Gifted'. She has also appeared in 'The French Dispatch' and 'Sid Is Dead'.
Kadeem Hardison as Bowser Jenkins
Bowser Jenkins is a veteran bounty hunter, who has recently moved to Atlanta seeking a fresh start. He meets the twins in a chance encounter and realizes they have the skills to assist him. He gives the twins leads on the fugitives, He also helps them set up an alibi for their gullible parents that they are working for him at a fast-food outlet. Kadeem Hardison, who plays Bowser Jenkins, is an actor and director. He is best known for his role Dwayne Wayne on 'A Different World', a spin-off of the long-running NBC sitcom 'The Cosby Show'. He also starred in the Disney Channel series 'K.C. Undercover' as Craig Cooper, the title character's father. Hardison played Norman in OWN's 'Love Is' before it was canceled. He also starred in the Showtime drama 'Black Monday'.
Cliff "Method Man" Smith as Terrance Coin
Terrance Coin is Bowser's rival, who is also a bounty hunter and they are often pursuing the same fugitives. He is also a budding YouTube personality and makes the bad blood between him and Bowser worse by dating Bowser's ex-girlfriend, Yolanda. Coin's character is portrayed by Clifford Smith, who is better known by his stage name "Method Man". He is an American rapper, record producer, actor and a member of the East Coast hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan. He is also one half of the hip hop duo 'Method Man & Redman'. In 1996, Smith won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, for 'I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By', featuring American R&B singer Mary J. Blige. Smith has appeared in films like 'Garden State', 'Venom', and 'Keanu'. He has also had recurring roles in three HBO series, 'Oz', 'The Wire' and 'The Deuce'. He also appears in the TBS comedy 'The Last O.G.'.
Myles Evans as Miles Taylor
Miles Taylor, Blair's love interest is played by Myles Evans. Blair thinks he is "hot" and he has the intelligence to attract her. He catches her eye while working at the country club where the Wesleys are members. He is intrigued by Blair, and while their first date is a fail, they decide to keep dating. He is known for his role as Chance in the feature film 'The Hate U Give'. His role in 'Teenage Bounty Hunters' is the first major TV role he has bagged.
Spencer House as Luke Creswell
Luke Creswell is Sterling's boyfriend and her classmate at the same hoity-toity Christian high school that the twins attend. Captain of the golf team, he is sweet, well-intentioned, and hopelessly devoted to Sterling. Spencer House, who plays Luke, has been in the Netflix series 'The Society' most recently (2019). He also featured in Oscar-nominated 'The Big Sick' and the CBS show 'Blue Bloods'.
'Teenage Bounty Hunters' premieres on August 14 and all 10 episodes will be available to stream on Netflix.
