It was tense in the last episode 5 'Head of the Snake' where Gibbs (Mark Harmon) saved McGee's (Sean Murray) life by shooting him as he was approaching a plane about to explode. With the cold open of Season 18 resolved, seems like we are moving towards 'tension' of the more romantic kind.

The last episode had already hinted at things becoming more serious between the slow-burn couple Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama). In it, Torres grew increasingly vocal and frustrated when Bishop was in danger after she was taken by the baddies on the plane that eventually got blown to smithereens.

Much like the viewers, Torres too initially assumed Bishop was on the plane, but when she finally walks out unscathed with a few minor injuries, Torres could barely contain himself. Fornell played cupid at this point, telling Torres, "go get your girl". And then we had the shot of the two crashing into each other, agony turning to relief.

Episode 6 titled '1 mm' is just going to build on that moment it seems. The official synopsis for the episode airing on January 26 reads: "Following a tip about smuggled weapons, Bishop and Torres engage in a shootout in a former sheriff's residence that's now a historical site, only to find themselves locked in abandoned jail cells there."

In the short promo, Torres and Bishop are exploring a mansion with 'serial killer' vibes while pursuing a case related to "cocktail bricks". But after the shootout, they get trapped in self-locking cells. But the point to note here is that each of them are trapped in their own cells and there is a wall separating them -- worse as Bishop looks around, she discovers something terrifying. "Nick, these cells are rigged to blow," she says.

Hopefully, they will be able to defuse the explosives while waiting for help. And while they are locked in separate cells, being locked in adjoining cells means the two will have the 'enforced' time out to hash out their feelings. This might be a blessing in disguise since they are usually too busy chasing suspects or shooting the breeze in off duty hours to talk about uncomfortable "feelings".

Plus, the shootout and the 'explosive' cells will add the veneer of danger that could pull them closer as they face another near-death situation together. But fans of the ship should be warned -- 'NCIS' does have the tendency to pull the carpet from under romantic scenarios and both of them might emerge from the ordeal and think they are better off as friends than romantic partners.

'NCIS' Season 18 Episode 6 will air tonight, January 26, at 8 pm ET only on CBS.
