'Mystic Pop-up Bar' Episode 9 Promo: Kang-bae feels betrayed by Weol-ju, what could’ve caused this mess?

The end of episode promo of the upcoming episode of 'Mystic Pop-up Bar' reveals that the relationship between Weol-ju and Kang-bae is going to go through a rough patch. Something that Kang-bae learned over the episode has him believe that he has been betrayed by both Gwi and Weol-ju and the only thing that could affect Kang-bae to this extent is his ability to have people confide in him after only a touch.

In the previous episode, Kang-bae realized that the side effects of using his ability to help Weol-ju achieve her target could also include the ability to now be able to hear spirits and see ghosts. Initially, Kang-bae had freaked out and when he asked Gwi and Weol-ju to help, they had convinced him that once Weol-ju's target was achieved she could visit him in his dream and close the door that makes him sensitive to spiritual perception. This way, his ability will become dull and he will not have to face unwanted emotional confessions from people that he knows and doesn't know.

However, events in the upcoming episode might prove their claims wrong leading to Kang-bae believing them to be betrayers. Considering this is the main reason why he accepted to work for Weol-ju, if she is unable to help him out, that would also mean that he would have to live with the ability to see ghosts and hear them too. Incidentally, his claims of being betrayed by Weol-ju are eerily similar to Weol-ju having felt betrayed in her past and this also could be the reason why Kang-bae's accusations could hurt her more. She has been where Kang-bae is and that is definitely not something that she would want for someone that she has become close to like she has with Kang-bae over the days.

The promo also hints at the bar's next customer to be someone who wants to be a shaman. This could be the incident that brought about the cracks in Weol-ju and Kang-bae's trust. There is a scene in the promo where Weol-ju and Gwi try to open the door of spiritual perception for her customer but is unable to. This is the exact opposite of what Weol-ju promised for Kang-bae, but if she is unable to open a door, can she close it?

The plotline that the promo doesn't address, however, is the one about the guard who is following Weol-ju, Gwi and Kang-bae as a powerful evil spirit. If he is evil and has been preparing to exact revenge from the reincarnation of crown prince from 500 years ago, can his father really be a good man? It was revealed in episode 8 that this evil spirit's father happens to be none other than Mr Death. While lost spirits are usually captured by the cops of the underworld, this one spirit has escaped from all attempts of capture for a long while now and this could be because of his father's support.

However, why does he want to exact revenge when it was he who betrayed Weol-ju and the crown prince in the first place? The answer to that is something that we have to watch out for.

'Mystic Pop-up Bar' originally airs in South Korea on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9.30 pm KST on JTBC and can be streamed on Netflix in the US.
