Toni Braxton confirms her engagement with rapper Birdman
Speculation that the couple could be engaged has been rife since November.
After rumors began swirling in 2016, it looks like Toni Braxton and Birdman are officially an item. The 50-year-old singer has confirmed she and the 49-year-old rapper are to marry after showing off her ring in a teaser clip for her TV show Braxton Family Values, in which she tells her sisters the pair will wed.
“I have an announcement to make — I’m engaged!” Braxton is seen telling her siblings in the clip while showing off a huge canary yellow diamond.
The reality show focuses on the lives of Braxton, her sisters, and their mother, and the new season of the reality show is expected to focus on the relationship between younger sister Tamar Braxton and music executive Vincent Herbert, who married in 2008 and underwent a very public split last year.
Birdman and Braxton have been together since the 2016 BET Awards but she told People magazine at the time that the pair were "just chilling". However, Birdman doesn't appear in the Family Values teaser of Braxton's engagement announcement.
Speculation that the couple could be engaged has been rife since November when she was spotted wearing a huge sparkler on her engagement ring finger at the Soul Train Awards, which appears to be the same ring she showed off to her sisters after announcing her engagement news.
The pair first met in 2002 while Toni was working on Birdman's hit Baby You Can Do It, and her mother Evelyn Braxton has previously praised her future son-in-law. Speaking in 2016, she said: "I think he is a nice man. I don't care what others say about him. He is a nice man. He is full of respect. Ever since I've been knowing that man, he's been phenomenal."
Tamar Braxton has been pretty chatty about her older sister and Birdman, telling talk-show host Wendy Williams in September that she believed the pair were secretly married. She also said Birdman was present with the family when her mother was hospitalized with heart trouble.
"I think that's my brother-in-law, I do," she said. "I think they eloped. 'Cause he was there in the way like a brother-in-law."
However, neither Braxton nor Birdman have commented on the news yet.
