Motley Crue's Tommy Lee was caught cheating on wife Heather Locklear with a porn star
Netflix's latest biopic about the "world's most notorious rock band" Motley Crue has laid bare some ugly truths about the many relationships that the band members have had over the years.
Aside from detailing Nikki Sixx's crazy relationship with his mother Deana, the biopic covers co-founder Tommy Lee meeting, marrying, and then divorcing actress Heather Locklear. This was the second marriage for Lee and the first for Locklear, who was only 24 at the time. The wedding, in the 1980s, was one of the most surprising and highly publicized because it seemed very normal for a wild person like Lee.
The couple got married on May 10, 1986. Lee was 23 years old at the time but he was convinced that this was the one that would last. The rockstar was in the prime of his drumming career with Motley Crue and he had (and still does to some degree) the rock-and-roll persona. Locklear, on the other hand, was one of Hollywood's favorite girl-next-door.
The wedding was held at the Santa Barbara Biltmore and had about 500 guests attending, so it clearly was a big deal for the rocker. The biopic shows Lee (played by Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly) telling his band member and co-founder Nikki Sixx (played by Douglas Booth) to get his act together because he had to go out soon. Sixx was high as a kite on heroin at the time.
Lee wore a white leather tuxedo and had been chewing a piece of gum up until the ceremony officially began. Locklear looked dazzling in a fitted, mermaid-style gown. The couple had a non-denominational ceremony that took about 40 minutes to complete.
The small ceremony ended with the couple sharing their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Lee which was timed perfectly with the release of a dozen white doves.
The couple tied the knot after they spent a whirlwind year romancing each other. The two had met while they were hanging out backstage at an REO Speedwagon concert. Lee told PEOPLE magazine in their feature about the wedding that it had been love at first sight. He then asked a mutual acquaintance to introduce him to Locklear.
He told the magazine at the time: "I was so shy I couldn't possibly have gone up to her myself, but it was Heather or bust." After Lee spent some time chasing after Locklear in the beginning, the couple finally started dating. The rockstar proposed to the 'Dynasty' actress just three months after they started spending time together. After their wedding was done, they went on a three-week honeymoon to the Cayman Islands.
Lee had also told the magazine at the time that he was excited about growing old with Locklear. He said: "I think we'll be the coolest grandma and grandpa in the world. We'll be like 85 or 90; I'll still be a rock pig, and Heather will still be gorgeous."
In spite of all the efforts of the couple to stay happy with each other, trouble wasn't very far behind. Lee would have to go on tour with his band and Locklear would be caught up in various acting gigs. The drummer was still very wild and a party animal who would end up engaging in sexual activities with various women. Unfortunately for the rockstar, one of those wild sex moments was caught on camera and was published in all the tabloids.
Locklear found out about it and the couple finally called it quits in 1994 after eight years of marriage. The film shows Machine Gun Kelly as Lee in a home recording studio when Locklear storms in with a newspaper that reported he had been sleeping with a porn star. The furious woman storms off equally fast and Lee is left smashing the studio's glass in rage and, in what looked like disappointment in himself.
The actress went on to marry Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora that same year and Lee married Pamela Anderson. Both these marriages didn't last either. Fortunately, Lee and Locklear do not seem to hold any ill will towards each other. In what would have been their 30th wedding anniversary in 2016, Locklear posted a rather racy old photo of them on Instagram with the caption: "Happy 30 years baby".
