'Motherland: Fort Salem' presents a new brand and breed of superheroes. Set in an alternate reality, the action-packed fantasy thriller by 'Claws' creator, Eliot Laurence, follows the present-day United States that forms a deal with witches to fight for the country.

'Fort Salem' follows three young witches who enroll to fight in the frontlines. An all-girls action series, think of it as three immensely talented witches armed with supernatural tactics of war and weaponry as they head out to combat terror and evil.

The 10-episode Freeform drama released its first trailer during the TCA Winter Press Tour and opened to a positive response from the audience and critics alike when the clip hit YouTube. In the lead are Raelle (Taylor Hickson), Tally (Jessica Sutton) and Abigail (Ashely Nicole Williams), three cadets who enroll at Fort Salem. While Raelle is seen as the fiery rebel with some major authority issues, Abigail comes in with the pressure of succeeding as her ancestry boasts of the upper echelons of military witch society. Tally is more of the Bubbles in the Powerpuff girl scenario.

In Amelia Holm who plays Scylla, there's a dark and complex recruit who's not exactly what she appears to be. Other key characters include Anacostia, the drill sergeant with a wicked wit and Lyne Renee as General Sarah Alder, the decorated leader of the witches.

Ahead of the series premiere, here's a quick look at the official synopsis of Episode 1: 'Say the Words': "Three witches join basic training at Fort Salem where they'll prepare for the front lines, fighting looming terrorist threats with supernatural tactics and weapons."

What to expect from Episode 1?

Perhaps, intense action. Considering this is part fantasy, part supernatural series, there is room for a bit of a backstory and the impending threat the witches face. From the trailer, it is already clear there will be some slam-bang action and a riveting plotline. It shouldn't come as a surprise if 'Fort Salem' may end up as one of the series that's high intensity and a fun watch at the same time.

'Motherland: Fort Salem' debuts on March 18 at 9 pm ET on Freeform.
