Woman makes son, 17, wear menstrual pad as punishment for calling his sister 'blood monster' during her periods
A single mother has revealed that she forced her teenage son to wear a sanitary pad as punishment. The mother made the revelations on the 'Am I the A**hole' Reddit forum on Tuesday, June 30. She said that she gave such a bizarre punishment to his son because he tortured his sister about her period, calling her a “breeder” and a “blood monster”.
However, the Reddit user, whose husband died around 10 years ago, also admitted that her punishment only temporarily prevented her 17-year-old son's cruel behavior toward her 15-year-old daughter. “My son over the last few months has started making fun of his sister for having a period. He calls her breeder and blood monster. I have taken away his game system and computer but he won’t stop. I have spoken to him and even asked his therapist to address it with him. Both kids have separate therapists since their dad died they go as often as they like,” the unnamed mother said.
In the forum, the woman also said that she even tried to help her teenage daughter to “hide her period from him by having her share my bathroom instead of the kids sharing one. But he always seems to know. He will even start sniffing hard around her saying, ‘is breeders time again’.” She added that his son’s cruel behavior makes her daughter “really upset when the time comes”.
The mother continued: “I finally had enough. If he won't stop, he can be embarrassed. I went to the store and bought some very unflattering pads. The next time he made a comment I brought them out and told him he had to wear them. It was the weekend so no one saw it. But he stopped entirely.” However, the effect of that punishment was short-lived as the woman said all changed after a recent therapy session.
“I came to pick him up and was asked to come in by my son for the last part. Well, the therapist is telling me I have hurt my son and damaged his confidence. I tried to explain but [was] just told never to do that again. Now my son is back to the breeder talk and keeps calling me an a**hole,” she added.
After sharing the whole incident, the mother has now asked other people on the forum if she did wrong by punishing her son in that way. Though users of the site were divided, most of them agreed that his son’s behavior is not normal and he is clearly displaying a misogynistic attitude.
“I had to recheck the ages here. Seventeen is way too old for this behavior. When I was 17 (some, not all) people were already sexually active. Has this kid not had a girlfriend? Or do his friends not have girlfriends?” one person commented. “It sounds like internalized misogyny and resentment manifesting in this harassment. But at this point, it's sexual harassment,” said another one, while third added: “He's specifically targeting her reproductive cycle and using nasty slurs that relate to her ability to produce life.”
