It has been a chaotic year for everyone, and the show-bingers weren't even sure whether they could expect their favorite series to return in 2020. But hey presto, new normalcy is somewhat trudging back and production houses have found a way to work during the pandemic. Among the numerous production delays and setbacks, one big jolt for viewers was when Anna Faris announced that she would not be renewing her contract for 'Mom', which happened a month before Season 8 started filming. So, fans are wondering what this new season sans Anna Faris's character Christy is going to look like. But don't fear, the rest of the cast is here and will pick up the pieces.

As Christy won't be returning anytime soon, Season 8 will focus on Bonnie dealing with the absence of her daughter, who has supposedly gone to law school.  Co-creator Gemma Baker explained to TV Line, "Christy’s absence will have a ripple effect on Bonnie throughout the season. Part of Bonnie’s journey this year will be to figure out what she wants to do now that she’s actually grown up. . . . With all the alone time, [Bonnie and Adam] discover that they actually really like each other. So much so that they try to help another couple achieve their level of happiness to mixed results.

It's going to be a particularly hard time for Bonnie (Allison Janney), as the series was focussed on her rebuilding a relationship with her daughter, Christy, and considering her alcoholic past, she might just suffer a relapse.  However, maybe not, as she won't be completely alone. Bonnie is working hard to keep a healthy relationship with her husband Adam (William Fichter). Gemma Baker also revealed that Jaime Pressly's Jill and Will Sasso's Andy are experiencing relationship problems at the beginning of Season 8, with Jill wanting to move things forward, while Andy is rather reluctant to do so.

The synopsis of the first episode reads, "When Bonnie invites the ladies to a slumber party, childhood games reveal adult problems..."

As always, we can expect a sharp and fun episode from 'Mom'. The series returns on November 5, CBS Thursdays at 9pm.
