Michelle Obama asks Greta Thunberg to 'ignore the doubters' after Trump bullied the 16-year-old on Twitter

Thunberg was named Time magazine's Person of the Year this week after she inspired millions across the world to push for government action to combat the climate crisis
UPDATED DEC 13, 2019

Michelle Obama showed her support for Swedish eco-warrior Greta Thunberg after she was mocked by President Donald Trump on Twitter once again.

"Don't let anyone dim your light," the former first lady tweeted on Thursday, December 12, to Thunberg. "Like the girls I've met in Vietnam and all over the world, you have so much to offer us all."

"Ignore the doubters and know that millions of people are cheering you on," Michelle added, indirectly referring to Trump.

Thunberg was named Time magazine's Person of the Year this week after she inspired millions across the world to push for government action to combat the climate crisis.

However, Trump was not pleased with the honor, taking to Twitter on Thursday morning to say how it was "so ridiculous" for the Swedish climate activist to be recognized as Person of the Year.

"Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!" Trump wrote. Thunberg, however, also responded in style. She updated her Twitter bio to reflect Trump's comments following his tweet.

Meanwhile, 2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden also chastised Trump for his remarks. "What kind of president bullies a teenager?" he wrote on Twitter.

Trump's eldest son Donald Trump Jr. followed his dad's footsteps and denounced Time magazine on Wednesday, December 11, for their 2019 Person of the Year pick.

The Republican said that the 16-year-old climate crusader was being used as a "marketing gimmick" and slammed the magazine for failing to honor "the Hong Kong Protesters fighting for their lives and freedoms".

Trump Jr, taking a swipe at Thunberg's emotional dialogue from the UN meeting earlier this year, also wrote: "How dare you?" questioning Time's selection this year.

Thunberg, who rose to popularity through her weekly Friday protest outside the Swedish parliament a year ago, became the youngest person to receive the title in Time's 92-year history.

She inspired millions of people across the world to take to the streets in an effort to demand an emergency action on climate change from their governments.
