Renewed demands for former First Lady Michelle Obama to run for Oval Office began after she announced on Tuesday that she will be donating more than $500,000 in proceeds from her bestselling memoir, “Becoming," released last year, to Girls Opportunity Alliance, a campaign to make sure more girls will have access to education.

The campaign in question was a part of the Obama Foundation, which was set up by Michelle and former President Barack Obama last year.

“I’ve always thought of helping others as a responsibility,” Michelle said in a statement on Tuesday. “This duty of giving back is what my parents and grandparents taught me, and it’s a value I’ve tried to live by my entire life — because it’s not enough just to make your way through life, thinking only of yourself."

She also promoted the campaign on social media and encouraged others to contribute toward it.

“#GivingTuesday is a reminder of how important it is to give back to one another. I hope you’ll consider joining me to give what you can to @girlsalliance projects, because every small donation has the power to make a difference for girls around the world: http://gofundme.com/girlsopportunityalliance,” she posted on Twitter.

The post soon went viral, with a number of Twitter users showering praises on the mother-of-two and urging her to run for President.

“You are the only one that could be President,” a user wrote, while another quipped, “Michelle Obama, president please!!!" Yet a third commented: “Please, can you be president? Pleeeeeeese!”

Although Michelle is yet to respond to these demands, one can guess what her answer will most likely be. She has been asked to run for office ever since presidential campaigns for the 2020 election began. She has maintained that she has no political ambitions to do so.

"Just because I gave a good speech, I'm smart and intelligent doesn't mean I should be the next president. That's not how we should pick the president. That’s been our problem. We're very shortsighted about how we think about selecting the commander in chief,” she said during an interview on Today.
