A man stabbed his girlfriend to death after years of fighting including a row about making a cup of tea, a court has heard. In December 2018, Michael Foran, 33, brutally murdered his 33-year-old girlfriend, June Jones, in their apartment in West Bromwich, West Midlands.

It’s almost a year since the unfortunate event, and the trial against Foran continues. Foran has already admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of loss of self-control but denies murder.

Giving evidence to the jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court from her home in Ireland, via a video link, Michael’s mother Christina revealed that she got a call at around 11:30 am on New Year’s eve. June's body had been discovered just a few hours earlier in the couple's apartment, after police broke into their home three weeks after her death.

Over the call, Michael told his mother of killing his girlfriend and what pushed him to do it. Christina recalled: "He said to me 'I have murdered Kate.' I didn't believe him, so hung up and went to my other son's house. Mickey rang back and said 'Kate is dead. I killed her.' He explained he had stabbed her in the neck and heart at her apartment three weeks previously.”

Daily Mail reported that he later called his mother again to ask if he could stay with her in Ireland. She apparently denied that request and his other request for 1,000 Euros too.

Michael stabbed his girlfriend 15 times. A post mortem revealed she died as a result of being strangled and multiple stab wounds.

Mark Heywood QC, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court, “There was evidence of bruising and pressure to her neck which indicated she had been asphyxiated while she was alive. There was bruising around the left hand side of the head, over the left temple, the left eye and cheek and left side of the chin. There were 12 stab wounds in the neck, a cluster of three stab wounds beneath the right hand side of the jaw. There was a cluster above the left breast.”

The trial against Michael continues as he denies charges of murder.
