Melania sacrificed supermodel career to be 'despot's wife', learned to 'worship materialism' to satisfy Trump

Melania Trump did not become a ''despot's wife'' overnight. She had to erase her past career as an apparent elite supermodel and learned to "worship materialism" in order to successfully qualify and carry out the role.

Nina Burleigh, author of 'The Trump Women: Part of the Deal,' reviewed Pulitzer prize-winning Washington Post journalist Mary Jordan''s explosive biography on the first lady called, 'The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump' to reach to this conclusion. In an op-ed for NBC News, Burleigh notes, referring to Jordan's book, that Melania not only had to defend her husband against Trump’s detractors by constantly reminding them that he was “a real man,” she also had to sacrifice a lot, including her career, reducing herself from a self-made woman to a trophy wife to afford the luxurious life she is leading today.

Although some of the information about her sacrifices are available online and some others through Jordan's book, there are also those aspects of the mother-of-one's life that she chose to give up, which will probably never be traced again. For example, most of the people are aware of how Melania stayed home for months and didn’t date when Trump broke up with her at the end of 1999, in order to lure him back into her life. People also know how she once dated a Frenchman who gifted her a car but she broke up with him to be with Trump.

But what is not clear is systematically deleted her personal history by cutting off all ties with her friends and mentors back in Slovenia, her native land, and how her modeling photos have been scrubbed clean from the internet after her husband was elected the president of the United States. Although there is no evidence that Melania ever worked for super-reputed fashion magazines, she did work as a catalog model. But if one was to try and track down any of the snaps from those photoshoots, barring some, like the famous faux lesbian shoot first published in the French lad mag Max and then republished in the New York Post during the 2016 election cycle, one would likely turn up empty-handed.

This is because post her marriage to Trump Melania started to "worship materialism." “She always thought if something had a bright price tag on it, it was beautiful,” former roommate Matthew Atanian told Jordan, as quoted in the book. According to Burleigh, "Knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing, as Oscar Wilde defined the cynic, also proved a blind spot that hurt her modeling career." She couldn’t "transform the clothes,” Atanian said.

Burleigh said the FLOTUS's affinity for luxury was pretty apparent from the time she moved to the White House. "Melania doesn’t bother to hide her devotion to the trappings of Trump's lavish lifestyle,'' she said. ''Her apparent unconcern with the cruelty that is this administration’s hallmark are clear in her White House priorities, beginning of course with the installation of the 'glam room' and including her shell of a project, 'Be Best.'"

She concluded by lauding the author of 'Art Of Her Deal.' "Jordan deftly, and without an agenda, decodes Melania. The cold, determined woman revealed is practiced in deception, deeply attached to splendor, seemingly unconcerned by racism, oblivious to the suffering of the working people from whose ranks she flew, and instinctive about bolstering male power," Burleigh said.
