Mel Gibson is all set to star in 'The Continental', the prequel to the Keanu Reeves blockbuster film series 'John Wick'. 'The Continental' will be presented as a three-night special-event TV series and will follow the origin behind the hotel for assasins that has been a pivotal piece in the trilogy.

Although there is no official confirmation on who will play Winston Scott, the hotel owner, there has been quite the reactions on Gibson's casting as Cormac. The role marks a rare move for Gibson as he was last seen in a tV role in  'The Sullivans'. Twitter went on a bit of a rant when news of Gibson landing the role broke. "Welp, *there's* a good way to kill a project before it ever gets off the ground. @STARZ @LionsgateTV - Mel Gibson?? Hard pass." read one of the tweets. This was seconded by another who wrote: "..... do they NOT want people to watch the show?'

"Well sucks I'll miss that show. I will overlook a lot of things to seperate the artist from the art. But racism and anti-semitism on that level is just a step too far for me. Sorry @STARZ next time google search your casting choices first." read a comment. "@STARZ so glad I canceled my subscription a few months ago! This is a sure fire failure before it’s even begun! Good luck!" one of the fans opined.

Last year, as per a Variety report, actress Winona Ryder accused Gibson of passing anti-Semitic comments at her at a party. Recalling their encounter, the actress said, "We were at a crowded party with one of my good friends, and Mel Gibson was smoking a cigar, and we're all talking and he said to my friend, who's gay, 'Oh wait, am I gonna get AIDS?' And then something came up about Jews, and he said, 'You're not an oven dodger, are you?'"

Coming back to the Twitterati's thoughts. "I love the John Wick movies, but nope. Won't be watching this. He's a good actor, I enjoyed watching his films decades ago. But I know too much now. No. Just no," one of the fans remarked. Gibson, whose career has been mired in numerous controversies, is not on social media, but his name started to trend almost immediately as Twitter users asked for the cancellation of the 'Mad Max' actor. The actor has been accused of being a shining example of a man who keeps getting reinstated and forgiven despite multiple instances of troubling behavior."
