Meghan McCain calls Trump 'president bone spurs', says he was 'neutered' by George Floyd death protests

'This is a moment in which President Trump has always prided himself and shown himself to be this big, bad tough guy'

American columnist, author and TV personality Meghan McCain, who has never held back when it comes to criticizing President Donald Trump, said that at a time when the country was in most need of leadership, the POTUS appeared to be "neutered" amid protests surrounding George Floyd's death.

'The View' co-host went on to slam the president's response or lack of it after Floyd, an African-American man, died in police custody on May 25. His death consequently sparked nationwide protests, riots and the Black Lives Matter movement.

"So, I have been really sort of grossly fascinated by how neutered President Trump and his administration have been by this extreme crisis. He hasn’t given an interview, or an address to the nation. All he has done, as you pointed out, Whoopi," she told co-host Whoopi Goldberg, "was cross the street and hold up a Bible quite awkwardly which might work for some people in his base, but it’s certainly not working for the vast majority of our population."

McCain also tore apart Trump's tweet posted on Monday, June 8, which said, "This year has seen the lowest crime numbers in our Country’s recorded history, and now the Radical Left Democrats want to Defund and Abandon our Police. Sorry, I want LAW & ORDER!"

She said in response: "If there’s anything we have seen for the past 13 days, it’s that this is a moment in which President Trump has always prided himself and shown himself to be this big, bad tough guy. All I see is president bone spurs who seems like, quite scared of the crisis that’s coming out in front of him, and it has been horrifying, because our nation really needs leadership right now, and equally politically fascinating."

Goldberg could not resist equating Trump with the Devil as she made fun of the recent instance where Trump ordered peaceful protesters to be gassed just to visit a church in D.C. which had been burned down by rioters. He stood in front of the church and posed with a bible in his hand, held upside down, and made no comments about the state of the country or Floyd's death. He also did not go into the church or offer his prayers. Goldberg said she was surprised the Bible didn't burn when he held it up for a photo.

McCain and Goldberg's comments came just as the latest polling numbers showed Trump trailing behind expected Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Although she has not said it outright, McCain has made it pretty clear in recent past that despite being a lifelong Republican, she would choose to vote for Biden over Trump this year.

On the April 22 episode of 'Watch What Happens Live' with Andy Cohen, McCain said that it “doesn’t take a rocket scientist” to know she was not backing Trump in the 2020 presidential race. While Biden was best friends with her dad when the latter was alive and still maintains a close relationship with the McCain family, in 2015, Trump said that he did not consider Senator McCain — a Vietnam veteran — a war hero, because "I like people who weren’t captured.”

Even after the senator's death in August 2018, POTUS continued to bash him in the media. He called him a “disgrace” for voting against repealing and replacing Obamacare. In March 2019, Trump complained that the McCain family didn’t thank him for “allowing” the senator's funeral to be held at the Washington National Cathedral. "So, I just had a really long conversation with (Biden) a few days ago,” Meghan McCain said. “I love him dearly. I keep telling everyone, I promise you will know who I’m voting for, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that there’s one man who has made my life pain and a living hell. And there’s another man who has literally shepherded me through the grief process. It’s not rocket science.”
