Meghan Markle has decided to leave her rescue dog, Bogart, in Canada forever because the rescue canine does not like her husband, Prince Harry. The 38-year-old left her beloved dog in Canada when she moved to Britain to live with Harry in 2017. But now a source has said that Meghan would not take the Labrador-shepherd mix Bogart back after moving to Los Angeles for the sake of family harmony. Bogart is reportedly in the doghouse.

The close associate told The Sun, “Meghan adored that dog but the decision not to take him back was based on Bogart’s relationship with Harry. Bogart never took to Harry when they spent time together in Canada. He didn’t like Harry. Meghan was very vocal about the fact it wouldn’t be fair to take him back full-time, given Bogart’s feelings for her husband. Of course, her staff in the UK who knew about her decision found her statement quite strange, but they accepted it at face value because Meghan knows her dogs.”

Meghan and Harry are currently living in Los Angeles after Megxit with their one-year-old son Archie at Tyler Perry's $18million Beverly Hills mansion. The pair have two dogs, Oz and Meghan's other beloved beagle Guy.

According to reports, friends of the Duchess of Sussex have said that before Meghan met Harry, Bogart and Guy were like “her babies” while she shot for ‘Suits’ in Toronto. Her canines were allowed to sleep on her bed and were only given the highest quality organic food. “She bought them Union Jack dog jumpers to keep them warm when they were puppies. he misses them when she is away and will even get someone to FaceTime her with them so she can talk to them,” a source said.

Besides, Meghan herself has spoken enthusiastically about Bogart previously. The former actress told Reader’s Digest: “He’s my first dog ever. I didn’t grow up with dogs. I was in LA and I went to this dog rescue. So I saw him and I was sitting there with him and then Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi walk in.

“Now, I don’t know her but Ellen goes ‘Is that your dog?’. And I said, ‘No’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog’. And so I brought him home. Because Ellen told me to.”

Meghan also reportedly brought Guy to gave company to Bogart as she said, “I started to see he loves the company of people, but just like I love the company of dogs, I don’t want to be solely around dogs all day so I realized he might like a companion.”

Meghan has always been close to animals and often uses the #adoptdontshop hashtag in her Instagram posts. She even chose Mayhew, an animal welfare charity, as one of her first patronages while in the UK. A report in May claimed that the mother-of-one has secretly been working with the organization as it struggles to raise funds amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarah Hastelow, PR and media officer for the charity, said: “The duchess has been in touch, I can't say much more than that. She originally got involved with us back in 2018 because she's been such a champion of animals and animal welfare. It's always been a passion of hers. When she was looking at patronages she got in touch. She really liked the fact we are a bit different and work with the vulnerable pet owners. Other charities don't have that side so that's what really drew her to us. It means absolutely everything to people to be able to keep their animals.”
