The Coronavirus pandemic has spread chaos everywhere. And in these troubled times, the royal family in Britain is also in constant stress. In a poll by the Express, readers were asked: “should Meghan Markle and Prince Harry return to the UK to be with the Royal Family?”

The response to the poll has been pretty shocking, with around 88 percent saying a big NO. 6,396 people responded to the survey, which was carried out from 2 pm to 8 pm on Friday, March 20. Around 5,575 people out of it gave it a thumbs down. And only 11 percent, which included 711 people, said “yes”, while just one percent, comprising of 110 people responded, “don’t know”.

The poll was set up after a royal expert claimed Prince Harry could be asked to fly back to the UK as a “placeholder” during the pandemic, as both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles will be told to self-isolate owing to their old age and health concerns.

It all started when Nigel Hawthorne, the author of 'Call Me Diana', claimed that Prince William will have to step up if a royal crisis arises. According to him, the Buckingham Palace could also ask his brother, Prince Harry, to help if William's wife Kate became pregnant.

However, Express readers strictly said no to it. One person wrote: “No! Absolutely not. They chose to leave and the Royal Family and the country can manage without them,” and another said, “No, they are neither wanted nor needed.” Another one posted, “As far as I’m concerned, they are no longer part of the UK Monarchy.”

Another user said: “There is a well-known quote which suits their situation which states as you make your bed, so you must lie on it," and another posted, "Enough said they have made their choices producing at the same time an acrimonious atmosphere with the rest of the family that doesn't deserve forgiveness by the family or the rest of the nation.”

Several readers posted mean comments saying that they are not wanted. “They made their choice, caused endless heartache to our Queen so should get on with it," one said and another posted, “Oh don't worry, they will come back when it serves their purpose/bank balance/convenience to do so.”

While most don't want to see the Sussexes return, several viewers on social media hope Prince Harry comes back to his home sometime in the future. According to the same Express report, one said, “Prince Harry has a duty to step up at this time of need and assist his brother Prince William and the rest of the Royal Family. With or without the help of Meghan Markle,” and another said, “@sussexroyal I certainly hope you are checking in on your father who is in the highest risk group.”

By the end of March, Meghan and Harry will officially step down as senior royals after completing their final public engagements. Post that, they won't be required to undertake any more royal duties in Britain. Only time will tell if that remains the norm or if it changes.
