The royal cover-up: All the style tricks Meghan Markle used to sneakily hide the baby bump
ON OCTOBER 12, Meghan's choice of outfit for Princess Eugenie's wedding came as big surprise to many considering the 37-year-old has mostly stunned in fitted sleek outfits. For the high-profile royal event, Meghan opted for an elegant navy blue coat dress by Givenchy which she accessorized with a pair of nude shoes and a matching navy hat by Noel Stewart. However, the coat was unbuttoned at her stomach, perhaps to deliberately cover up her frame.
ON OCTOBER 3, Meghan visited Sussex in a businesslike ensemble — a dark green silk shirt by & Other Stories and a matching green leather Hugo Boss pencil skirt. She was also careful to drape a structured cream-colored cashmere coat by Giorgio Armani over the top to perhaps conceal her silhouette while flashing a glimpse of leg. She did, however, take off her coat later to show a perceivable bump. The green shirt was tucked into her skirt possibly to explain away a hint of a bump as simply being the imprint of the shirt.
ON SEPTEMBER 25, Meghan Markle Markle attended the Oceania exhibit opening at London’s Royal Academy of Arts dressed in an all-black ensemble. This was her first solo royal outing. Meghan chose to wear a mid-length black Givenchy dress featuring sheer sleeves and a velvet panel at the chest. Her choice of black (universally agreed as a slimming shade) and the wide black belt was perhaps used to distract from any bump. She was also seen clasping her hands in front of her stomach several times.
ON SEPTEMBER 24, Meghan Markle hit the court in Loughborough, England, for the Coach Core Awards in an Oscar de la Renta Blouse and Altuzarra Trousers. The navy top — with its belted waist, long sleeves and asymmetrical hem — was definitely used to cover her growing bump.
ON SEPTEMBER 6, Meghan Markle was at the 100 Days to Peace gala in at Central Hall Westminster in London. The duchess ditched the suits to wear a sleeveless blue dress by Jason Wu. The dress was not remarkable per se. And the unusual ruffled design on the front of the dress sparked some speculation on social media that Markle could be showing off the beginnings of a baby bump.
ON SEPTEMBER 20, Meghan Markle was joined by Prince Harry and her mother, Doria Ragland, to the launch of a cookbook with recipes from women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. Meghan was in a very stylish ensemble including a bodysuit by Tuxe and a skirt from one of her favourite designers Misha Nonoo. But she also wore a royal blue coat by Smythe for most of the event.
