A source has revealed that Meghan Markle’s friendship with Jessica Mulroney was "already on the rocks" before the stylist’s white privilege row happened. Meghan and Mulroney had been friends for long. They reportedly met in Canada when the 40-year-old stylist introduced the ‘Suits’ actress to a swanky Toronto social set. Mulroney was also invited for the 2018 wedding of Meghan and Prince Harry at the Windsor Castle.

However, now the sources have claimed that the Duchess of Sussex has increasingly felt that the mother-of-three was taking advantage of their friendship. She was “benefitting” from her position as royal BFF and stylist, sources claimed. The white privilege “row has really given Meghan the excuse she was waiting for to cut Jess off for good,” one source revealed to Page Six.

“I don’t know what the tipping point was, but Jess has been on the outs for some time. Their friendship is definitely not what it was. And really, how can you have such a close friendship when one person is basically making a career out of the friendship?” another source added. After the royal wedding, Mulroney reportedly got TV gigs on ‘Good Morning America’ and her own reality show, ‘I Do, Redo’. However, after her racially charged clash with lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter, she was fired from both the shows that left her in a "flood of tears".

Mulroney had reportedly tried to threaten Exeter’s livelihood after which the blogger shared a 12-minute-long video on Instagram calling it the "Amy Cooper Experience," referring to a New York woman who called police on a black man who was bird-watching. Exeter alleged that Mulroney "took offense" to a generic call to action and added, "Listen, I am by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this, she is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the color of her skin. And that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing."

Exeter also called the clash an example of "textbook white privilege” and pointed out how Mulroney's friend, Meghan, is "arguably one of the most famous black women in the world." After the video went online, Mulroney, however, apologized to Exeter and commented on the video, "You are right when you say 'this s**t needs to stop,'" and added, "I know we have different experiences. And that is something that, even in the course of a heated argument, I need to acknowledge and understand. I am unequivocally sorry for not doing that with you, and for any hurt I caused."

Following the row, CTV also released a statement confirming that Mulroney had been fired as the host of 'I Do, Redo'. In an official statement, they said: “Bell Media and CTV encourage our entire team including on-air talent to practice respect, inclusivity, and allyship as we pledge to work better and more openly to listen to and amplify black voices, and not minimize them. Because recent conduct by one of our shows hosts, Jessica Mulroney, conflicts with our commitment to diversity and equality, CTV has removed ‘I D, Redo’ from all Bell Media channels and platforms effective immediately."
