The latest twist in the royal family is that Meghan Markle is probably abandoning her bid to be a British Citizen. According to a report by The Sun, Markle cannot live out of the country for 90 days.

According to a government source, the couple's move to Canada "will dash the efforts to show a strong commitment to the UK and an intention to live here."

The pair had planned to split their time between the two countries, but any absence would be seriously looked at by immigration officials, the report said.

Meghan could reportedly get indefinite leave to remain in the UK letting her start off her full citizenship bid after five years, but rules also stated she must not have left the country for more than 270 days in the three years.

Michael Marziano, a senior immigration lawyer at Westin Associates, told The Sun: "The US citizen has to be living in the UK with the British partner when the application to extend the partner visa is made. They must intend to continue to live together permanently in the UK."

He added:  "If there has been any period throughout the first two-and-a-half years where they have not lived together in the UK, government guidance states that there must be a good reason for this. It must be consistent with their continued intention to live in the UK permanently."

Meanwhile, Harry left Britain on Monday to be with Meghan and their son Archie in Vancouver. Meghan and Harry shocked the monarchy, as well as the world, when they came out on Wednesday, January 8, with an official statement announcing that they would no longer be fulfilling their traditional roles in the royal family.

The took to Instagram to announce their decision to "step back". The post shared that the couple plan to "work to become financially independent by starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution." It came after their six-week-long break in Canada.
