On Monday, November 9, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell threw his support behind President Donald Trump's claims of voter fraud that he has touted ever since he saw the 2020 election slipping away from him. Although he filed one lawsuit after another in a number of states where he lost, it did not stop the now President-elect Joe Biden from emerging as the winner.

During a speech from the Senate floor, McConnell said that the Democrats has no right to complain about Trump refusing to concede the Presidential race to his Democratic opponent, especially after for the longest time they were denial when it came to accepting the results of the 2016 election where former Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton was defeated.

“More broadly, let’s have no lectures about how the President should immediately, cheerfully accept preliminary election results from the same characters who just spent four years refusing to accept the validity of the last election,” McConnell said. “And who insinuated this one would be illegitimate, too, if they lost again. Let’s have no lectures on this subject from that contingent.”

He continued: "In late August, Secretary Hillary Clinton said, quote, 'Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances… I think this is going to drag out, and… he will win if we don’t give an inch.' That same month, Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic Leader both stated, quote, '[President Trump] needs to cheat to win.' In October, when Speaker Pelosi was shopping some conspiracy theory about the Postal Service, she recklessly said, quote, 'I have no doubt that the president… will lie, cheat, and steal, to win this election'.”

McConnell also asserted the fact that he did not see anything wrong with the fact that Trump has filed a slew of legal battles following the election result being declared. “Does this sound like a chorus that has any credibility to say a few legal challenges from President Trump represent some kind of crisis? At this time last week, small-business owners in cities across America were boarding up their windows in case President Trump appeared to win and far-left mobs decided to reprise their summertime rioting. Suffice to say a few legal inquiries from the President do not exactly spell the end of the Republic," he said.

The news of McConnell's controversial statements was met with condemnation from the liberals online most of whom stressed on the fact that by the same logic, McConnell's senate win can be questioned too. "If this is the new norm there are some GOP Senate wins that reek of fraud and should be rejected. Let’s start with #MoscowMitch’s win," one wrote while another said, "I think Graham’s victory should be looked into. That race was neck and neck and he wins by 10 pts. Honestly of any race that smells like a rat." A third commented, "So we can also decline to recognize Mitch's Senate victory..."

One more remarked, "Cool, let’s challenge the senate results in Maine, Kentucky and South Carolina too then! If that’s how democracy works." Another quipped, "How do McConnell and Trump explain House and Senate results/wins categorized as legit — but other parts of same ballots categorized as 'illegal?' Mindboggling." A user said, "The Georgia runoffs are vital to get rid of Mitch's powerful hold on the senate."

The next shared, "Let's see how this power hungry person is after January when he loses control of the Senate! it IS going to happen. I just know it!!" And another said, "C'mon Georgia, get rid of Mitch once and for All!"
