Emmys 2018 backlash: "Hannah Gatsby saved this show," say disappointed fans
While Rudolph and Armisen enjoy a widespread fan-following, the duo's mistimed recurring bits during the Emmy awards has left many fans wondering if this was the wisest decision.
The 70th Annual Emmy Awards are underway at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and it looks like fans are not quite pleased with hosting duo Michael Che and Colin Jost.
The 'Saturday Night Live' stars, who kickstarted the 2018 Emmys with a slew of political jokes, have been in the eye of the storm for quite some time now - thanks to their callous remarks about the awards show ahead of Monday night's Emmys (September 17) - and now their performance as the event's hosts is also under the scanner. But more so because of the bizarre production strategy, as a result of which, every now and then the camera pans to comedians Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen - who are serving as the secondary hosts for the night.
While Rudolph and Armisen enjoy a widespread fan following, the duo's mistimed recurring bits during the Emmy awards has left many fans wondering if this was the wisest decision. In fact, some viewers are of the opinion that Che and Jost might as well hand over the hosting duties completely to Rudolph and Armisen.
This is the first time in recorded history when anyone has said, "No, please, no more Maya Rudolph." #Emmys -H— Heather & Jessica (@fuggirls) September 18, 2018
If they literally cut to Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph for every funny joke made so far, why aren't Fred and Maya hosting? #Emmys— Joseph Lamour (@lamour) September 18, 2018
"Maybe Maya Rudolph should HOST IT #emmys," wrote an angry user on Twitter. As a second one chimed in, writing, "I wonder if Maya Rudolph is mumbling to herself, "God damn, this is bad. Really bad." #WorstEmmysEver #Emmys"
"Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph are trying the best they can, but their cutaways during the #Emmys are absolute duds so far. Cant overcome poor writing," shared another user.
As added another: "Ordinarily I enjoy Maya Rudolph. But these bits with Armisen, just don't seem funny. Is it just me?"
Another popular opinion is to have Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby replace Che and Jost as "in a perfect world, Hannah Gatsby is the host."
"Hannah Gatsby has single-handedly saved this show. Let her host everything. #Emmys," shared another fan.
Gotta give Hannah Gatsby props. She’s pretty funny. #Emmys— Keena Ferguson (@keenastar) September 18, 2018
