Maxine Waters raises speculation of civil war if 'wannabe dictator' Trump refuses to leave office after losing
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has said that she did not trust President Donald Trump to concede if he was to lose the election this year and given the situation in Portland, Oregon at the moment, where unmarked federal agents are arresting protestors without providing any reason, triggering speculation if the United States was headed for a possible civil war if Trump loses.
Speaking to TMZ, Waters who was at the Capitol Hill, appeared concerned over Attorney General William Barr's testimony, in which he supported the aggressive federal response to the protests. She added that a further concern was raised from the fact that neither Trump nor Barr has explicitly made it clear so far as to whether the POTUS will accept the results of the election regardless of whether he wins or loses and whether he would willingly hand over the reins of power.
''First of all, the attorney general of the United States not to say that this president is going to abide by the Constitution of the United States of America, if he is not reelected he will leave office, he will concede rapidly and transfer power is not a confrontational thing in the United States,'' Waters said, speaking from the passenger seat of her car. ''For the president not to be able to answer that question or Barr to be able to answer that question... It really does make you suspect about what they are planning and there are many folks who have said and I have repeated that what's going on in Portland, Oregon, is practice for what could happen if (the president) decides that he's not gonna step down. That he's gonna stay in the White House.''
She added: "All of this is unfortunate. Nothing that we ever expected to happen in this country. This president is a wannabe dictator, acting like a dictator and this use of the military where he is bringing out unidentified persons dressed in certain camouflage clothing that you can't tell where they are coming from. They don't have any name badges. They have unmarked cars. That is dangerous and scary. And people of America had better be concerned.''
After videos showing federal law enforcement officers in camouflage sans any agency identification or badges using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown Portland and detain protesters went viral on Twitter earlier this month, the hashtag, #Gestapo, started trending on Twitter. The Geheime Staatspolizei, abbreviated 'Gestapo', was the official secret police of Nazi Germany and German-occupied Europe. During World War II, the Gestapo played a key role in the Nazi plan to exterminate the Jews of Europe.
The unexplained detentions started after President Donald Trump said the government had planned to “quell” nightly protests outside the federal courthouse and Multnomah County Justice Center that has lasted for more than six weeks. On July 11, one demonstrator was left hospitalized with skull fractures after being shot in the face with “less lethal” munitions. During the protests against racism and police brutality, the US Marshals Special Operations Group and Customs and Border Protection’s BORTAC were sent to Portland to protect federal property.
But according to interviews conducted by the OPB, these officers were also arresting people who were not near federal property or engaged in any criminal activity. In a letter released on Thursday, July 16, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf said, “Portland has been under siege for 47 straight days by a violent mob while local political leaders refuse to restore order to protect their city. A federal courthouse is a symbol of justice. To attack it is to attack America.”
