‘Match Game’ contestant loses $25K for not knowing who Sharon Stone is, fans ask 'what did those '90s babies do?'
ABC’s ‘Match Game’ which returned with a new episode tonight (June 14), had an interesting set of celebrities as its panelists. It was graced by Joel McHale, Amy Sedaris, Kevin Smith, Raven-Symoné, Ne-Yo and Malin Akerman. Joining the celebrity panelists were the four contestants, Kimberly Clark, Jasmine DeGroat, Danielle Johnson and Nate Dicken.
The fun-filled episode saw the contestants and the celebrities indulge in the fill in the blanks, making the right guesses while vying for the $25,000 prize money. However, one of the contestants, Nate Dicken, ended up losing the entire amount because he was unable to guess a renowned celebrity’s name. The screen displayed the name Sharon and asked the contestants and the celebrities to fill the blank with the right word. Many names popped up including ‘Rolling’ and ‘Emma’, but the right answer was Sharon.
While Ne-Yo got the word right, Dicken lost his chance of winning $25,000 as he didn’t know who the actress was. On watching the latest episode of ‘Match Game’ internet users have taken to Twitter to express that they were rather surprised to see Dicken’s response. Sharon Stone is a recipient of numerous awards including Primetime Emmy and Golden Globes Awards, known for her work in movies such as ‘Basic Instinct’, ‘Catwoman’ and ‘The Laundromat’ among many others.
Reacting to Dicken’s lack of knowledge about Stone one wrote, “She's referenced in Scream for God's sake. You're telling me this guy knows Yoga Hosers but not Sharon Stone? He may have been in grade school during her peak but c'mon.” While another added, “Born in the 90s and definitely know who Sharon Stone is. I don't know what rock Nate has been living under all this time.”
Another Tweet read, “Nate just said he doesn't know who Sharon Stone was? Go pick up a phone and Google it. WHAT IN THE WORLD DID THOSE 90s BABIES DO? #MatchGame”
Meanwhile, ‘Match Game’ is also being discussed for one of its other questions, which required the celebrities and contestants to guess what comes after ‘Social’ in one of the segments. While the options shown on the screen included, ‘Media’, ‘Security’ and ‘Studies’, many viewers noted that the right answer would have been ‘distancing’, had the show been filmed in the present day.
“Authors have been talking about having to now write books taking place in the pandemic which is crazy to think about.I was just watching the game show Match Game and you had to choose a word after "social ______" and I really wanted to say distancing.” wrote one.
