'Maradona in Mexico': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about the soccer star's Netflix docuseries

Diego Maradona coaches the Dorados in Culiacán, Mexico, right in the heart of Sinaloa Cartel territory, in this docuseries coming to Netflix

Hot off the heels of his HBO documentary, which released earlier this year, the Argentinian World Cup-winning football star Diego Maradona comes to us in a new Netflix docuseries about his time coaching the Dorados.

The Dorados are a football club in Culiacán, Mexico, right in the heart of Sinaloa Cartel territory — an international crime syndicate. Maradona coached the team from September 2018 until June earlier this year, after which he stepped down due to health reasons.

Plot

The official synopsis describes the show: "Arguably soccer's greatest player, Diego Maradona, comes to Culiacán, the heart of the Sinaloa Cartel, to save the local team, and maybe himself, too."

Diego Maradona has guided the Dorados to two consecutive league finals during the two seasons that he was in charge. Before Maradona had begun work with the team, the Dorados had been near the bottom of the standings for consecutive final series in the Apertura 2018 and Clausura 2019 tournaments. Both times, the Dorados lost to the Atletico San Luis team.

Earlier this year, Maradona announced through his lawyer that he would be stepping down as coach, citing health reasons. According to his lawyer, Maradona's time away will include him undergoing surgery for his shoulder and knee.

His return to Sinaloa had been delayed at the start of this year, due to complications arising from internal bleeding.

Release date

The docuseries will release on November 13, 2019.

Cast

So far, the only confirmed member of the cast is football star Diego Maradona himself.
