A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to life for murdering five people in a "cold-blooded" manner. Andreas E killed his 19-year-old ex, Nadine Hinterholzer, and her new boyfriend, Florian Janny, while the two were in bed before slaying Hinterholzer’s parents and brother at their home in Kitzbuehel, Austria. According to reports, Andreas first killed his former flame with whom he was in a relationship for several years. He then killed 24-year-old Janny before killing the woman’s parents, aged 51 and 59, and her 23-year-old brother. The names of three of the victims have not been released.

Also, the date of the incident is not known, but it happened in the quiet Alpine town based outside Innsbruck, Tyrol. It has been said that Andreas killed his victims a few hours after he saw Hinterholzer and Janny together at a local restaurant. A judge who awarded life imprisonment Andreas justified the sentencing citing the "particularly cold-blooded and insidious" nature of the act. Andreas had pleaded guilty at the beginning of the trial. But the guilty decree is reportedly not yet legally binding as it can be appealed. The judge said that life sentencing had to be forced despite the guilt-ridden confession of the man.

Reports have claimed that the motive behind the gruesome murders was Hinterholzer having ended her relationship with Andreas in July 2019 after dating him for several years. The assailant surrendered himself before local police after killing all the five victims. He drove to the Kitzbuehel police station and gave the murder weapon to the officers. Andreas also confessed before officers that he just killed five people. Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung quoted the man as saying, “I don't want to say more about that now,” adding: “I experience that every night while I sleep, that's bad enough." The newspaper also mentioned that it takes almost four to five hours every evening before Andreas falls asleep as his criminal activity has left him anxious. The man told Kronen Zeitung with tears in his eyes that “everything just came together during the night. Nobody could help it. I had tunnel vision. Nobody deserves to be killed."

In another incident that happened in August 2019, a man was detained and charged for allegedly sneaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment before shooting her dead. 22-year-old Rigoberto Galvan allegedly killed Stephanie Brenner-Cresswell at the 900 block of 20th Street in Bellingham, Washington. After the murder, he reportedly called 911 to report the incident and confess to what he had done. Galvan was then charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Whatcom County Jail.

The victim was due to graduate in December 2019. After her death, the vice president of Enrollment and Student Services at Western Washington University, Melynda Huskey released a statement, saying: “We have learned that Stephanie died as a result of intimate partner violence. As we mourn this loss, we also commit ourselves as a community of learners to take action. Over the upcoming school year, there will be opportunities to learn about intimate partner violence, to support victims and survivors, and to make positive change. Please watch for announcements in September and throughout the year. Taking action to end violence is a powerful way to honor Stephanie."
