It was the series premiere of 'Making it Home with Kortney and Dave' on Monday night (July 6). Renovation experts Kortney and Dave walked into the lives of Elizabeth and Michael on the episode to give their family home a makeover.

The house in question was built in the '80s and belonged to Michael's mother. Michael had been in the house since he was 10 and had grown extremely attached to it. So much so that he was not completely confident with the whole renovation and was a tad bit worried about the process taking away the essence of the house that he'd grown up in. Elizabeth, on the other hand, was sure that even though this was a family home, it lacked a personal touch and was still very much a house that her mother-in-law owned. Michael and Elizabeth had purchased the house from the former's mother in $7,50,000 which according to the renovation expert duo was a steal considering the real estate pricing in the neighborhood was between $1M to $1.2M for a house like theirs.

Coming to the renovation, Michael and Elizabeth wanted an open space plan, new vinyl floors, an upgraded kitchen with double appliances and an island for entertaining. They had a dining room that was not of much use and they wanted their house to be more functional wherein they could use all the space around the house. Elizabeth also wanted a pantry in her kitchen, however, given the cramped up area, Kortney wasn't sure as to how she would be able to tick off that box from the former's wishlist. With a budget of $1,60,000 in hand for this renovation spared by the homeowners and seven weeks' time for pulling off the project, Kortney and Dave started to pump in the work.

Some of the challenges that Kortney and Dave faced while working on this project were a leaking pipe in the basement that was causing mold to build up behind the walls. Kortney really wanted to give Elizabeth all the storage space she wanted in the kitchen but they couldn't do so without tearing down a wall which meant an additional $15,000 that the couple was not ready to spare. However, in the end, everything came together and Kortney and Dave were able to pull off a transformation that brought tears to the eyes of the happy couple.

Watch the rerun of this episode on July 7 at 12 am ET and tune in to HGTV next Monday for a new episode of 'Making it Home with Kortney and David'.
