#TrumpleThinSkin: Trump calls Twitter trends on him 'ridiculous, illegal', Internet says 'deal with it snowflake'
President Donald Trump has always been the hot topic of discussion on social media, especially in the last few months. Taking into consideration the coronavirus situation and the prevailing civil unrest in the US, more and more people are seen using Twitter to call out Trump’s antics. On July 27, POTUS took to Twitter to blast "trending" topics on the platform, calling it an "illegal" act for showing him in bad light.
Trump tweeted, "So disgusting to watch Twitter’s so-called 'Trending', where sooo many trends are about me, and never a good one. They look for anything they can find, make it as bad as possible, and blow it up, trying to make it trend. Really ridiculous, illegal, and, of course, very unfair!"
However, his action was met with complete opposite and unexpected reactions, as Internet users resorted to using his latest tweet to call him out once again, giving rise to more trends. But before dragging him into the discussion surrounding Twitter trends being illegal as stated by the president himself, a few users took it upon themselves to educate him about the functioning of trending topics on the platform.
One tweeted, “Twitter’s trending topics aren’t done by human beings or editors but by an AI algorithm that detects what people are talking about the most. Looks like most people are talking about how much Trump sucks and how he is destroying our country. Deal with it snowflake. It’s the truth.”
Soon, irked Internet users started more trends such as #TrumpleThinSkin and #illegal, used to mock Trump as they reminded him of the illegal activities his administration has been involved in.
When one wrote, "How does it feel? Do you feel threatened? Awhhh are you gonna threaten to ban twitter too? I'm sorry that our expression of the first ammendment feels threatening and illegal to you. Please go cry about it. F**K TRUMP #TrumpleThinSkin." Another added, "#TrumpleThinSkin about as illegal as the bubble machines and kitty laser pointers that #protesters arm themselves with for exercising what? Their constitutional rights? Read the constitution already, please.”
Meanwhile, one Twitter user blamed Trump for all the crazy trends surrounding him by tweeting, “Who’s they? You trend in a negative manner because that’s how people regard you. It’s no one’s fault but yours. Own it. You are letting Americans die every day from Covid. You are instigating violence. You are a failed leader." Adding to the previous tweet, one user wrote, "I think misinformation should be illegal when it comes to life and death situations. Trump is a psycho."
