Luke Cage season 2: Harlem hero meets his match in the mighty villain Bushmaster

The not-so-subtle hint by Colter is resonated by the season 2 synopsis of 'Luke Cage' as well, which sends out a serious caution as far as the antics in Harlem are concerned.

(Spoiler alert)

Mike Colter's Luke Cage, after a fateful first season, has not only come out in the open as the protector of the streets of Harlem but also has exposed himself to newer threats. In the second season of Netflix's Luke Cage, the stakes are going to be high. And if the show's star and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is to be believed, the titular Marvel hero would have to endure some serious ass-kicking as well.

“This season, the stakes have risen because Luke’s expected to be a leader in a community that has a lot of problems,” Colter dished to Variety, teasing what's next in store for fans of the Netflix series.

“In his way are people who think they should be able to rule Harlem as a queen, as Mariah [Dillard] would call it, whereas Luke looks at that more as a dictatorship. He sees Harlem as a democracy…It’s a completely different way of doing things, so that’s going to come to a head," the Luke Cage actor explained. Speaking of the antagonistic forces trying to take over Harlem, there is an eye-grabbing altercation in store, a glimpse of which was even teased in the first-look teaser.

In season 2, the Marvel hero would be facing off against none other than a Jamaican gangster, better known as Bushmaster. With conflicting desires in the picture for Harlem, it would fall upon Cage to get down and dirty in an attempt to protect the community that he has proudly taken charge of.

“The one metaphor we’ve used for this season actually comes from a quote from Mike Tyson,” says Coker hinting on the rough and tumble that is about to unfold. “One of the things he said was ‘Everybody’s got a plan until they get punched in the face.’ When Luke Cage gets knocked on his ass by Bushmaster, the question is can he get back up?”

The not-so-subtle hint is resonated by the season 2 synopsis of 'Luke Cage' as well, which sends out a serious caution as far as the antics in Harlem are concerned.

"After clearing his name, Luke Cage (Colter) has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation for being bulletproof as his skin. But being so well known has only increased the pressure he feels to protect the community. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain,” teased the official description of the upcoming season.

All episodes of 'Luke Cage' season 2 will release on Netflix on June 22.
