If fans have their way, New Zealand actress Lucy Lawless will be the new Cara Dune on 'The Mandalorian'. This comes even as bad times for Gina Carano unfold after she was fired from the 'Star Wars' show after her post on social media. Her post implied that "being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust", according to THR.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable." She has also been dropped as a client by UTA, an agency spokesperson confirmed.

Lawless is known for her roles in the hit television series 'Xena: Warrior Princess' and she followed it up with 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' (2010), its prequel 'Spartacus: Gods of the Arena', and the sequel 'Spartacus: Vengeance' (2012).

Twitter was abuzz with discussion about the new actress who would be hired to play the fan-favorite character Cara Dune, who has been central to the series for the two seasons it has aired so far. With the third season already confirmed for December 2021, the hunt for the new character would be underway and Lawless was a favorite choice on the internet.

"I love #TheMandolorian. Gina Carano was by far the weakest actor in the show. The idea of her getting her own spin-off w/ #RangersOfTheNewRepublic was laughable from the start. Hopefully Lucasfilm & Disney can now make the show outside of the shadow of her ignorance. #LucyLawless," read one of the tweets.

"@RealLucyLawless is amazing. I'd be fully on board with this or just her being in the show in general. Have you seen her in @AshvsEvilDead ? Whoever is in casting should pat themselves on the back. (To be fair that show is great and all the cast are brilliant too.)," said another. "Omg @RealLucyLawless will kill in this role," one of the fans opined.

Lawless found major favor in the eyes of fans. "Seriously, they should just cast Lucy Lawless and call it a day. There. Strong decent actress who fills the role just as well, is a decent human being and has been awesome for 20+ years," one of the comments read. CaraDone was trending heavily on Twitter. "Disney should hire @RealLucyLawless for #CaraDune, and fire Kevin Sorbo, not that he works there, just for the hell of it #CaraDone," one of the fans remarked.

"Think is only for the Carano controversy.... I'm invested too in Mando... they should replace her with Lucy Lawless and we can act like nothing happened she was there from the beginning," read a tweet.
