HENRICO COUNTY, VIRGINIA: Lucia Bremer, 13, died on Friday afternoon, March 26, and more details revealed by officials offer a clearer picture about what really happened to the teenager. Media reports quote a source as saying a friend who was walking with Bremer had tried to help her but in vain.

The source quoted by 8News is close with the families involved in the incident. The source revealed that another young girl was accompanying Bremer on a path in the Gayton Forest West subdivision. The killer had followed them closely and when he had approached the girls, the friend pushed him away and had also yelled “gun! gun!” before running into a neighbor's home.

The source then added, “Less than a second later,” Bremer was shot multiple times. It was also reported that the girls did not know the killer and that there were no words exchanged between the killer and the two girls. A witness recalled how they had noticed two girls walking on the path from Godwin High School were being followed by a man. After Bremer was shot, one of the passers-by had tried to administer CPR.

However, Bremer succumbed to the gunshot wounds. On Saturday, the suspect was arrested. He was revealed to be a 14-year-old boy. He was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm of a juvenile. The name of the suspect has not been revealed to the media as he is a minor. He appeared for his arraignment on Monday.

After the suspect was arraigned on Monday, Shannon Taylor, Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney said, "The facts of this case are absolutely horrific." Taylor also added, "Let me just recognize that we are still within 72 hours of this tragic event happening." Taylor also revealed that they are unable to reveal more details at this time, but can assure "the community should feel safe at this time.”

Outside of the courthouse, Taylor also told the press, "Recognize that when we’re dealing with two juveniles in a situation like this, it’s a tragedy, no doubt about it." Speaking of if the suspect will be tried as an adult, Taylor said, "We are so early in the beginning of these proceedings," and added, "To understand this young man, and who he is and what his background is about, we certainly can’t comment on whether that’s something we’re going to pursue or not.”

At the moment, he is being held without bond and a status hearing for the teen has been scheduled for May 4. Details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victim, and how the suspect got his hands on the gun are currently under investigation. It was also reported that there has been no evidence to indicate that this was either gang-related or a hate crime.
