'Love Island' star Mike Thalassitis hanged himself in the woods, police confirm
Mike was reportedly dealing with huge debts as a result of his party lifestyle. He was also said to be saddened over his split from Megan McKenna.
'Love Island' star Mike Thalassitis' official cause of death has been revealed as suicide by hanging after the young reality TV star passed away at the age of 26 on Friday. Thalassitis was discovered dead in a woodland close to his home in Essex on Saturday.
A Met police spokesperson revealed, "Police were called to a park near Latymer Way, N9 at 09.28 hrs on Saturday, 16 March to reports of a man found hanged. Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, aged in his 20s deceased. At this early stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious. Police are in the process of informing the man's next of kin. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
It was Mike's manager who confirmed the news of his untimely death. As reported by OK! magazine, a source shared, "It's true. We have lost our dear brother Mike." Mike had appeared in the 2017 series of 'Love Island' and was believed to be mourning the loss of his nan whom he had moved in with to look after. According to The Sun's Dan Wootton, Mike was very devastated and grief-stricken in his last days.
Dan took to Twitter to share, "Devastated to hear of the passing of Mike Thalassitis. He was a good man and this is an atrocious waste of a young life. I spoke to Mike (who loved that I would still call him Muggy) on Thursday. He was grieving the loss of his nan. She was 94 and he had moved in to live with her because she needed a full-time carer. He assured me he was fine and was excited about the launch of his shop."
However, the Mirror reports that some of his sadness could also have had to do with the fact that he had been struggling with debts. Sources also said Mike was dealing with huge debts after overextending himself with a party lifestyle. He was also said to be saddened over his split from Megan McKenna.
"There was so much in store for his future that this is truly senseless. Mike wasn’t the lad you saw on Love Island. He was tender and sensitive and vulnerable and desperate for true love. Rest in peace, mate. I will miss you," he continued.
